The restaurant was terrific. It is located in a recreation of a 16th century medieval town about 10-20 minutes from the Casa de Campo hotel. The food was very good as was the service. It has marvelous views of the river gorge and the rest of the village. Definitely worth going!!

We did this excursion through our cruise ship. We had a great time! Other reviews had me nervous that it wouldn’t be a great day, but it was a perfect day! Ferries picked us up in port and shuttled us to the dock at Catalina Island. The staff were waiting for us and quickly got our chairs and umbrellas set up for us. Facilities were good. There is a nature trail with signage showing what animals inhabit the island. The beach is beautiful and clean. There wasn’t food available, but we knew that before we came and packed accordingly. We would definitely do this again!

It’s a fairly decent trip! Expensive though.

you do get to see really rural and quite impoverished people, especially the villages or those working in the sugarcane fields.

As a couple, we paid $170 which gets you one vehicle to share, kind of rubbish you’d both hoped to have your own (like some groups of lads did) luckily my wife didn’t fancy the drive so we where okay.

You definitely have to experience the beautiful beach while visiting. It felt so good to relax in the waters of the Caribbean and look out at the expanse of blue. Relaxation to the Max!!!

A nice area in the making, is one of very few public area that you can go to the beach and set in any of the restaurants in La Romana, Santo Domingo.

    Very informative and yet sad.
The history of the indigenous peoples is all to common.
Still a nice place to visit and nice exhibits.

A scenic 16th century Mediterranean village created in 1976, on the shores of "Río Chavón", houses the campus of a very important Dominican institution - the "Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design". It was founded in 1984 and offers courses on Digital Design, Graphic Design, Fashion Design, Illustration and Fine Arts. The initiative provides art and design education to talented and qualified students, with scholarships being granted to those that cannot afford the connected costs. Its association with "Parsons The New School for Design" allows the most talented to pursue further studies in its New York's campus. Take your time and stroll along the village of "Altos de Chavón", home of this important experience. And don't forget to bring your cameras! Fond memories to take home! Enjoy!

Great course. Ceilieo was an awesome caddy! My husband played the Teeth of the Dog and had a great time. He said Ceilieo made whole the day.

While visiting "Altos de Chavón", you cannot miss "The Art Gallery". A small gallery exhibiting paintings, photographies, drawings, sculptures and crafts by international and Dominican artists, even including works by the local students of the "Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design". A quick visit and an opportunity to buy works of future famous artists, encouraging and rewarding their efforts toward their future careers. Enjoy!

Please don't take this trip, especially if you are staying in Punta Cana. It will be a painful experience. Paradise Tour Punta Cana, Sol Playa, and others are the same people, just different names.
For starters, they say it is either an 8h trip or a 10-hour trip. We'll is neither. If you decide to take it, get ready for at least a 12 hrs trip, and more than half of that time will be them ferrying you from bus to bus and from boat to boat. The actual time on the island is around 4 hours.
They will pick you up at your hotel , but then you will drive around picking different people from different hotels, which it could take at least 45min to 1 hour.
Following that, you will be dropped off at a meeting point where there will be at least 200 more people, going to different islands. You will have to wait another 40 minutes ( they say it will be 10 minutes, don't believe that) until they figure in what bus you will be put next. When that finally happens, then it will be another 1:20-1:30 hrs to reach the port where you will board your boat to the island. But wait, don't think it is the one on the pictures , no no no....in my case, we were put on two different small boats, which obviously don't have the promised beverages or snacks. The ride itself is about 20 min. But will take you directly to the island without stopping to do the snorkeling.
Once on the island, if you want to do the snorkeling, you will have to wait until the two boats taking people back and forth to the snorkeling area, finish with one of the several groups already ahead of you. When it is finally your turn, the one hour advertised becomes rather 30 minutes, and that includes the time going there and coming back. It has to be because there is a ton of people waiting to do the same.
All the various sea creatures you were told you will see are limited to a few species of fish ( maybe three or four) I saw a lot more just swimming myself to a small coral reef in front of the island.
For the traditional lunch ( traditional lunch without traditional items like fried plantains or beans), be prepared to make a 30-minute line to eat tasteless food and warm beverages since ice is not abundant. If you want fish, which I would say is very traditional, you will have to pay for it ( don't worry just 20$. The same as in a restaurant in a foreign country)
When it is time to come back, the boat rides will be as chaotic as the previous one, same with the bus to the meeting points and the other cars that will make you tour all the Hotels in the area before reaching your.
    BOTTOM LINE and RECOMMENDATIONS.
    1) Don't take
    2) if you still want to do it, either drive yourself to la Romana and take one from there or hire different means of transportation to the meeting points. That would save you at least 1 ½ hrs of pain
    3) Don't make any other plans or reservations for that day...you won't make it, since the 8 hrs will become 12.
    4) if you are lucky enough to hire a private tour with a private boat, DO IT or get together with a group of people to make it happen that way.
    5) The island itself is pretty but not much of a difference with the rest of nice beaches in the area

Stopped by here with my Dominican family for lunch. There is a wide choice from Pizza to Chicken and more. A few shops to browse round. Spend an hour or two here

I visited this place in December of 1980, with some classmates who had heard about it, I found enlightening, some what educational, and over all enjoyable.
