What travellers are saying
- Anna MDublin, Ireland225 contributionsDefinitely the best attraction in that area!
We had great fun doing our 7/27 waterfalls trip.
Instead of booking a fairly expensive trip, we drove there ourselves, paid 12usd per person for a trip (a bit more if you want to do more waterfalls).
You don't have to be super fit, however the first part include a bit of walking, so get mentally prepared.Written 21 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Pamelat2Garden City, MI57 contributionsThe experience was wonderful, the staff was friendly. I would highly recommend this our family of 6 ( adult children)really enjoyed it and couldn’t stop talking about it. The grounds at the top were absolutely breathtakingWritten 2 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Jennifer & Randy24 contributionsOcean World was awesome, even more fun than expected. It is pricey but well worth the cost. We booked our trip thru the resort we were staying in, and chose to do the Dolphin Encounter as an added experience. It is not the same as the Dolphin Swim, they are 2 separate encounters. Lunch was also included. We were able to get in the water, touch the dolphin and watch as it clapped for us and did little tricks. They are amazing creatures. There was a guide that helped us navigate the different shows so we wouldn’t miss anything. We saw all of their shows: the Sea Lion show, Dolphin Show, Shark Show, Bird Show. We had front row seats at each show. The shows are included, not an additional cost. The birds are amazing too. You have to go inside the bird enclosure and see the ‘love birds’, and feed them. This park is not as large as other water parks (like Sea World), so you are able to get close to the animals during shows, we were front row at each show, there were no lines. You can easily see all of the shows and do additional encounters in one day without missing anything or being exhausted. Take a camera, I read you couldn’t take photos, but that is only in relation to the ‘encounters’. The park has photographers that take photos during encounters you can purchase later. But you can take all of the photos you want around the park. It is a once in a lifetime experience.Written 7 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- HoberMomOf3Spencerville, Canada6 contributionsview and tour are great but pushy for tips and purchase from shop- $$$. our private taxi tour was the best part of every excursionWritten 14 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- AJNNJ44New Jersey345 contributionsInteresting history. Self guided tours with headsets are available in multiple languages. Always fun to think back and imagine what places like this were in their prime - cannons thundering defending Puerto Plata from pirates or the British. There’s far less excitement now and I’m not sure the kids appreciated the experience the way the adults did - but this is definitely worth a bit of your time.Written 28 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- richj65Chicago, IL1,049 contributionsSince I was there during pandemic it was amazing how empty the beach was. Clean beach with crystal clear water. No beach chairs because there were less than ten people although it was early morning.Written 18 November 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Pamelat2Garden City, MI57 contributionsI’m not a big rum drinker but, this was a neat experience for only $4 pp. you were able to learn about the whole rum making process. It’s a walking tour … more of a lesson about the history of rum opposed to a factory tour. Very interesting I would recommend… you were able to taste test like 8-9 different rums at the end and them purchase some at their storeWritten 2 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- B1714DBelgrade, Serbia13,613 contributionsLike in most Caribbean towns, the Malecon is the first street running by the sea.
This one in Puerto Plata runs for 3-4 km, passing by some older houses within the residential area. However, this part is not that interesting for tourists.
More interesting is the far western part of Malecon by the San Felipe park and fortress (read that review). This part was reconstructed, is well guarded by police, safe and interesting to see.Written 12 February 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - HoberMomOf3Spencerville, Canada6 contributionswent privately- amazing - only suggestion is more cabanas/access to food/drink etc. at the island. privately gave much more to see/do. lunch was amazing!Written 14 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- imranb132019Mississauga, Canada5 contributionsIf youre a fan of rare stones, especially amber, this is one place you'll enjoy visiting. They give you a history lesson on how the stones are mined and how they came about, with a brief live demonstration of different types of formation. They tend to place alot of silver within the amber for jewellery, such as necklaces, bracelets, rings etc. Alot of nice features, plenty of amber shops around, alot of fake and real stones aswell. Overall definitely worth a visit. Cheers.Written 5 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Joseph GMontreal, Canada4,644 contributionsThis catholic church is the main church of Puerto Plata. The first church on this site was built of wood and eventually destroyed by fire.
Construction on its replacement began in 1870 and underwent a few rebuilds through the years so that the current version built in modern Victorian style opened in 1956.
It features three naves, many stained glass windows, and minimal decoration.
Its two bell towers at one end and a dome at the other end are visible from anywhere in the city.
On the day of our visit, it was largely devoid of any visitors.Written 1 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - dogsruleNova Scotia, Canada2,872 contributionsSo enjoy meandering at the top of the mountain, a very relaxing spot, have done it at least 4 times! - Martin L4 contributionsThe go karts are tire and in need of love, but it's still lots of fun and the price is reasonable. Kids will enjoy it.Written 23 May 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Joseph GMontreal, Canada4,644 contributionsThis is the main square of Puerto Plata where you can browse, sit on a bench, and visit the cathedral. admire the two statues of national heroes (Juan Pablo Duarte and General Gregorio Luperon). The buildings surrounding the square are truly architectural delights.
In the center of the square, you have a two-storey Victorian structure which during our visit was displaying traditional indigenous costumes.
From this square, you can explore the surrounding attractions (Umbrella Street, Paseo de Dona Blanca, etc.) and stop in one of the trendy restaurants and cafés that surround it.
This is definitely a must-see place for any visit to Puerto Plata and a great place for photo ops.Written 8 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Glenn WDorchester131 contributionsA beautiful beach close to a resort with the warmest water you can imagine. A lot of tourists with many of the tourist necessities close at hand.Written 10 June 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
