This museum of the Royal Houses is rich in history and is one of the most beautiful museums I've been too.
Now, this museum showcases fabulous colonial-era objects, including treasures recovered from sunken Spanish galleons, antique weaponry, Taino artifacts, and period furnishings.

We were given a guided tour of the museum which contained the history of the cocoa bean as well as the Dominican Republic's history with export.

Probably the most professionally done and in the best shape of all the museums in Santo Domingo - clean, all the lights work, air conditioned, good audio narrative, etc.
This is a museum made by passionate people, about an hour of visit with intense immersion inside the dominican history.

Take the time to look at the pieces, there are only a few museums devoted to just amber in the world.
The amber museum is quite fascinating- the exhibits are pretty well set out, the tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly- at the end you can roll your own cigar and sample traditional mamajauna- which taste...

This is one of the few art museums in the city and it was really hard to find.
You could make a day with the other museums on the property.

The first time we visited this museum it was wonderful - a wealth of information about the Jewish history on the island.
Do yourself a favour and read up about the Jews who immigrated to Sosua in the mid forties, this little museum, 300 peso entry fee, if full of history, sorrow and growth of the town of Sosua.
