We were on a tour of Kirov, Russia and were recommended by our guide to visit the Museum of Paleontology. It is not big, but it is very interesting with some hands on activities for kids as well as lots of fossils and scientific information. As a science teacher for the US that was visiting half way around the world it was neat to see that museums of our history and origins are pretty much the same world wide. It's really a small world in the end.

The Male Dormition Trifonov Monastery in the city of Kirov (formerly Vyatka) was founded by Saint Tryphon Vyatka in 1580.
The Assumption Cathedral of the monastery, built in 1684-1689, is the oldest building in Kirov.
In the 1690s, near the Assumption Cathedral, the Nikolsky Gate Church was erected.
The territory of the monastery is very green, there are many beautiful flower beds.
Behind the cathedral there is a spring and a font with healing water.

Kirov is a pretty hip European City in the middle of Russia. Not many American visit there, but it is quite friendly to them. We loved Spasskaya Street with numerous statues for great pictures and the Chocolate and Ice Cream Museum. Fun gift shops as well. Just fabulous.

We had limited time at the end of our day of touring in Kirov and our guide recommended picking up delicious chocolates from the Chocolate History Museum. The shop was delightful with a cafe with seats to enjoy coffee and yummy treats. It was a great last stop in our time in the beautiful city of Kirov.

The Monument Family is a tribute to the Dymkova Dolls of the Kirov Region. It is such a GREAT monument with differing legends of good fortune depending on where you sit. If you touch the baby you will have many children. Unfortunately I can't remember all the legends, but it is a fun monument to visit.

We were in Kirov staying at the Hilton Garden Inn which is located next to the Pond near Diorama. We were there in July so it was light very late at night and very nice to be outside. People could rent canoes and were enjoying the lovely outdoors. There were many nice vendors selling icecream and other treats. We did not get a chance to wander over to the park next to the pond, but it is certainly a very nice area.

We didn't have time to visit the museum, but we did have time to visit the ice cream shop in the museum. It is such a quaintly decorated shop with delicious ice cream. It's off the pedestrian walkway area and was a great visit. Would love to come back sometime and visit the museum.
