What travellers are saying
- Jeffry bEssendon, Australia12,100 contributionsMaokung Gondola will take you for scenic trip from the Taipei Zoo MRT Station up into the mountains. It's a cable car, it can be a bit scary if the wind is blowing. The view is good, you can get off if you want, just make sure that you can get back on again.Written 22 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jeffry bEssendon, Australia12,100 contributionsChih Nan Temple is one of the oldest and most impressive Taoist temples on the island. It is colloquially known as "the Temple of a Thousand Steps" by foreign residents. Colourfully robed Taoist monks bless offerings brought to them by the faithful. The temple is one of the largest in Taiwan. Taoism is a unique Chinese belief system, where the faithful seek to live in harmony with nature.Written 26 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jeffry bEssendon, Australia12,100 contributionsTaipei Zoo has a range of animals that interest the whole family, such as giant pandas, koalas, zebras and monkeys. There is something for everyone. The zoo is quite spacious, and you can buy things to eat. It's a good place to spend some time on the holidays. You can get there by public transport, which is convenient for families.Written 22 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MartinG1984Bratislava, Slovakia248 contributionsWe took the gondola up to the mountain and hiked back down to the Zoo MRT station. There are lovely plantations at the mountain and nice views. Food is available up on the mountain too (convencience store, teahouses, small restaurants and street vendors).Written 10 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - luciana t39 contributionsIts fun but the view might not be the best Taipei has to offer.
Due to Taiwan's weather I would recommend to check it before going. Heavy rain or a very hot day wouldn't be advice.Written 23 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. According to the signs; it should have been a short 10 min walk from the Tea Center. Unfortunately, we thought we could loop back up to the Tea Center, but I think you are supposed to backtrack from where you came.
As we got deeper onto the trail, the trail markers were all in Chinese and we could not decipher where we were nor which way to head back the Tea Promotion Center. We think we were on this Jhangshu Trail which took us about an hour to return to the Tea Center. It was a difficult loop trail w/ lots of stairs & quick elevation changes.
Google map (GPS) doesn’t work well in the mountains. We asked for directions from locals who happened to be on the trail. But for the most part, the trail was quite empty. It will be most helpful to provide a trail map & trail markers in English as well. It's a really interesting trail, well maintained & mostly in the shade.Written 21 May 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. A very hot or rainy day would not be a good choice.
Its a nice place to go to with friends or kids.
Not my first choice if you only have a few days in Taipei but not bad for spending time.Written 23 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Avoid to go there during Nov-Feb for the lotus are almost dead then.Written 7 August 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - sabi0jamesManila, Philippines3,413 contributionsThe last station of the Gondola ride from the Taipei Zoo station. Climate is cooler at the top of the mountain, despite the fog that time we enjoyed the scenic view from the station. We went out of the station to try the food stalls nearby. Since the weather was cold (13-degree celsius) we tried some soup with chicken balls, taiwanese sausages, braised pork and sweet corn before going back to the station for our return ride to Taipei Zoo station.Written 8 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - digitalrocCalgary, Canada1,489 contributionsThe Maokong Station is the last stop on the four stop Gondola. There are a few vendors and restaurants outside the station. I really question why this is a TripAdvisor attraction though.Written 20 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Soko37Prague, Czech Republic4,066 contributionsAround 20 minutes walk from Maokong Station. You can eventually take a bus 🚌 to get closer. Hidden in the nature and peaceful environment with excellent views. Relax and taste local tea 🍵Written 2 October 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- luciana t39 contributionsIts very well taken care of, clean and beautiful.
Not my first choice if you only have a few days in Taipei but not a bad place to visit if you are nearby or have the time to spend.Written 23 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
