Lovely place Cullen with it's sandy beach and antique shops. Also it's back drop is amazing with the old railway viaducts. It has a couple of pubs/eateries also a chip shop/cafe tucked in behind the viaduct on the main road to the right as you go up the hill. All in a very nice place to give a few hours of your time to.
Although I have title my review"Cullen Skink" I never did actually get around to trying this very Cullen dish. Maybe next time 🤔

Only came across this purely by accident accident on a coastal walk, and found it really quite moving that people had their obviously much loved pets buried here , in this wild lovely spot, overlooking the Moray Firth.
Reading up on its history, it appears a retired local started it up in 1992, burying his Alsatian dog Bruce along with 2 other dogs, on wasteland bordering the cliffside - and it just snowballed from there. Dogs, cats , hamsters , and washed up seals, dolphins and a porbeagle shark have been carefully interred here.
The area’s clearly well looked after, by volunteers I believe, and plants , shrubs and flowers are dotted amongst headstones and ornaments.
Having owned several pets over the years , I found it all a touching testament to our spiritual connection with animals, and got quite emotional reading some of the epitaphs.

My wife and I walked from Cullen to Bin of Cullen. Just over 9 miles round trip but with pleasant weather and well constructed paths we thoroughly enjoyed our stroll. The views at the top were superb - to the south Bennachie (Ben a Hee), the Cairngorms, east & west great views of moray firth’s coastline and to the north the Black Isle. Was a bit surprised that the route we chose wasn’t signposted. I had to rely on Apple Maps which were ok but not definitive.

Cullen harbour is used for people to take their kids to swim in the sea and jump off harbour wall a brilliant safe activity, with sand for sunbathers. Relatively safe swimming with in the confines of the harbour, great for paddle board of all experience. The site has a public toilet, shop and pizza van. Amazing clear water and great family fun.

It’s quite easy to see why this spot was chosen for the siting of medieval royal Cullen castle, as the encompassing views of both sea and countryside are quite glorious. Sadly , there is nothing now remaining of what once was the castle upon a hill surrounded by a rampart - but a fluttering 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 flagpole has been erected within a mound of ancient rocks in it’s memory. There are also picnic tables and benches on which to admire the delightful wraparound views which include a verdant rural outlook over the Bin of Cullen , and fields full of sheep on the route up.

The Old Kirk has an absolutely fascinating history and part of the present building dates back to the 13th century. The church is surrounded by a graveyard and is itself worth exploring, The church is open to visitors twice a week with guides available

This historical gothic monument dates from 1675 - 1695 , and apparently used to stand opposite the church, but was moved to The Square in 1872 with much of it’s stonework renewed. It’s sited near the middle of a carpark , with seating either side , and probably no one is aware of how vitally important it once was to this sea-faring town. They were considered a focal point, and only towns granted a market cross were bestowed the right to hold a regular market or fair.

This war memorial stands fittingly in a central area overlooking the square . It’s an octagonal monument composed of sandstone , with a domed roof , and built upon a stepped base. The architect was a Mr Wittet from nearby Elgin, and it was unveiled in December 1920. Names of the 87 fallen local men from both World Wars are inscribed in polished granite panels. The Countess of Seafield laid the foundation stone in August 1920. Her husband James Ogilvie-Grant was a Captain in the Cameron Highlanders regiment, and is listed upon the memorial as he was killed in 1915.
