“Where else in the world can you jump on the back of a trailer and get towed along the beach by a 1949 Minneapolis-Moline tractor to a bird colony?” Established in 1952, Gannet Beach Adventures has a long history of providing tours on a spectacular stretch of the Hawke’s Bay coastline, from Clifton to Cape Kidnappers. This unique, fun eco-experience tour involves travel with local experienced guides by vintage tractors and trailers on a comfortable four-hour adventure to the largest mainland gannet colony in the world. Departing on the days’ low tide, visitors travel by tractor and trailer along the majestically rugged coastline. Photographic opportunities abound as stops are made throughout the journey giving visitors an insight into how nature’s forces have shaped this amazing area.

It's about the journey not the destination. This is the third time I've done this trip along the beach and would be happy to go again. The drivers have plenty of information to share and as you stop to see gannets on the way there is no need to do the walk to the top if it is too much... More

This is not my first trip with Gannet Beach adventures, but it's been a good 8 years and time for another trip up the coastal road on a tractor...what more could you want, a nice lazy day sitting on the trailer, being given all the info on the local area, rock formations and a bit of water to add to... This was one of the highlights of our visit to the North Island. A brilliant set up and the best way to get to see the amazing Gannet colony and beautiful scenery at Cape Kidnappers. It's a four hour trip in total but it flew by. We had Colin on our tractor who was superb-very funny and entertaining and also... More

If you're visiting the North Island, this trip is a must! Hop on a tractor trailer and enjoy the 9km ride along the beach, Colin is an excellent guide, knowledgable & friendly with great kiwi humour!! The cliffs, the sea and of course the gannets make for a hugely enjoyable few hours. I can't recommend this trip highly enough.

We were drawn to this option as the images of the tractor and beach hopping trailers is something very Kiwi. We chose the day to be a little cooler and we were lucky to have some cloud cover. There were 5 tractors, we went with Brian who was quite a character. The thought of going up the beach in old... More

What an amazing trip, a real Kiwi adventure, at an unbelievably affordable price. You arrive and board old tractors, the drive takes you along the beach through the water and over rocks. The drivers have amazing knowledge of the local area and great jokes too! After the ride you can do a 20 minute walk to a massive colony of... More

A tightly run tour with interesting and knowledgeable guides, it is a great value way of experiencing one of the key attractions of the area. Each driver has a slightly different take during the journey there and back. You are close to the waves with plenty of photo opportunities along the way with some amazing cliff faces. There's a small... More

This is fun for young and old alike. There are gannets on the way, and for the effort of a twenty-minute walk uphill there are gannets on the cliff-top at the lunch stop. The geology on the way was spectacular. We were lucky to get the trip - the day before we went it was cancelled because there had been... More
