Lovely hike, gorgeous views
Jul 2020
Our visit to the Triberg waterfall had been a bit of a disappointment, so when we drove up to the Todtnau waterfalls I was a bit apprehensive. Fortunately, I was happily surprised with the fact that the experience was way different.

There is a small and free parking lot on top of the hill. There is a sign of the area and the paths and an arc that marks the start of the trail. There is no ticketbooth and so you can enter for free.

The way down is a bit steep at the beginning, but very doable. I would recommend good footwear though, if you have any. Before to long, you'll see the top part of the waterfall. It wasn't crowded at all and the paths were all well maintained. In some places a little canopy was made and there were some laid-back chairs to enjoy the view. Also, you could really get close to the waterfall and even wade through the shallow parts. The waterfall may not be as high as the Triberg once, but I found them just as spectacular and beautiful.

The road leads you down to a platform half way the waterfall, were you'll get some more spectacular views. You can either go further down into the valley and to the foot of the waterfall, but we crossed a bridge and decided to take the path back up again. This lead us back up to the main path. This route is circular and makes for a nice and varied hike. Especially the path back up, on the other side of the waterfall, is quite adventurous. It leads you past nice rock formations and it has stairs.

Well worth a visit
Aug 2020
After a visit to the Feldberg this was our next stop. It is a 15 to 20 minute drive from Feldberg parking lot. You can visit the waterfalls from the top or the bottom, at both locations is a parking lot. We drove to the top and there was sufficient free parking space. From the top you can walk along the waterfall to the bottom. A well maintained path with a lot of stairs which can be slippery because of the water. Waterfall is quite big (consists of several stages) and especially from below you see how large they are. The lowest part is also the biggest fall. From the bottom we walked a while through the forest and then the same back way up along the waterfall to the parking.

A nice waterfall, but takes some effort to reach it (especially back to the parking lot)
Jul 2020
A beautiful waterfall but requires some physical effort to reach it.

We parked our car at the parking place above the waterfall, and it was perhaps a 10-minute walk downhill to reach the first part of the waterfall. Then it is still perhaps additional 5-10 minutes to the bottom of the waterfall from where it can be best viewed.

Very refreshing to wet your feet in the cold water.

To get back up to the parking place was quite a hike, and in the summer heat it was not pleasant. On our way to Todtnau we saw that there´s an another access that may be used to get to the bottom of the waterfall and back with much less of an effort.

Both parking and entering was free of charge.

Nice hiking trip to waterfall
Aug 2019
Nice waterfall to see and a beautiful hiking route towards it. You should park at the parking area near Todtnauberg which is free. A little bit down the trail you can choose between the "Grosse Rundweg" and the "Kleine Rundweg". We chose the Grosse Rundweg down and the Kleine Rundweg up. The Grosse Rundweg is more through the woods and the Kleine Rundweg is steeper with more rocks. The whole trail took us about 2,5 hours (2,75km) which included a lunch and a photo session at the waterfall.

Small walk to the main waterfall but there are also many paths and hiking routes you can take to further your journey through the Black Forest. A bit for everyone

Great short walk with amazingly beautiful waterfall
Aug 2019
Important tip: this is not a circular trip. There are two options to do this walk. From the top of the waterfall and then go down and up, or from below and then you need no climbing whatsoever.
If you start from below, it is a much more relaxed trip (20-30 minutes to/from the waterfall if you are walking really really late with small kids)
