Go for the views, that is the main attraction. There are occassional low key small events and things of interest to do the staff and cheery and enthusiastic. There's a walk from the Mill over to Dedham which is pleasant and easy. The signposting in the surrounding area isn't great, so plan your route. The car park is £4.

An interesting place to visit. We would like to return in better weather and take more advantage of the walking routes. Very scenic and unspoiled-a real gem. A very pleasant tearoom.

The National Trust has done a great job to develop a very attractive visitor site, with wonderful buildings, interesting [modest] walks and on-site courses. The shop and cafe complement the whole experience and there's a helpful introduction to the artistry of John Constable. Left after a 3-hour visit knowing that there was plenty more to see and that my wife... More

Lovely setting where John Constable created so many of his works, now preserved by the National Trust. Short walk from the carpark and an on-site cafe to satisfy your hunger/thirst. The buildings are privately owned and occupied, but you are able to walk around the site and the surrounding countryside or hire a boat to row on the River Stour.

John Constable and his painting of The Haywain and the Mill, that's what comes to mind. Attached to the Mill, Watermill originally built in 1733, is a 17th Century miller's cottage. We visit this attraction throughout the year during each season as the photos will show.

Wanting to be out and about at a dull time of year, we visited this iconic site for the first time ever - what a delight. There are no charges for National Trust members (just £4 parking for non--members) and you get access to a jewel of a location. Descending the path towards the hamlet you pass the exhibition of... It was interesting to see the actual spots where John Constable had painted some of his well-known pictures, but apart from that and a small exhibition there wasn't a lot to see. The walk across the river was fine, but overall we were a bit disappointed with the place generally. The incredible peace and quiet were the best parts!

This location is well worth a visit giving one a physical experience of those enigmatic works of art. And the exhibition of larger than life reproductions acts as a reminder if one was needed.

A really nice visit and free if you are NT member. Worth taking the guided tour as it really helps understand about Constable's life and his paintings.
