About
Let us introduce ourselves. We are Timo and Maikku "brought by a train" to Yllas. That is how the local population call for the not locals. Anyhow we are locals now, Timo with 15 years and Maikku with 20 years of experience in Yllas. Both of us have an ISIA qualification (International Ski Instruction Association) with skills to teach cross country (traditional, skating, pumping), alpine, snow board and telemark skiing.

We booked a cross country skiing lesson with Timo as beginners. We had a wonderful time, Timo was such a nice and patient teacher, you could see how he loves and enjoys his work. We learnt a lot und could do our tours (also in the night!) alone during the next days. We rented our complete skiing equipment from sisu outdoor, which was in perfect condition at a fair price. At the end we fell in love with this sport and with the landscape of Akaslompolo. We are looking for our next time in Lapland, we are definitely coming back and visit Timo and Maikku again! Thank you very much!

We booked a x country ski lesson with Timo who was great - there were 4 of us, average age 53. After a 90 minute lession, we felt confident to go solo the next day. 2 of us managed 8km! Won't say how many times we fell over!! Kit was brand new, pricing was good, lovely friendly service. THANK YOU

We booked a 90min cross country skiing lesson with Timo. We had spent a few days out on the cross country trails but needed a bit of guidance, renting skis comping others and YouTube only got us so far.
Very quickly we when to from shuffling to gliding, learnt to control our speed better both in and out of the tracks and gained more confidence. Timo was an excellent teacher and Everyone we met at Sisu was incredibly friendly and helpful. Booking couldn’t have been easier and we’re looking forward to trying out some more of the trails.
We would recommend a lesson with Sisu to anyone wanting quality guidance and instruction as a couple or family.

So we trekked out into the woods to find our Christmas tree on the 23rd December. The skies were clear and it was about -22°C! We had a fantastic guide called Timo who spoke good English and ensured we were warm. Half way through we stopped, and built a small fire with hot drink and snacks to keep us warm. Sisu also do other guided activities such as fat biking, longer snowshoe treks and cross country skiing lessons and hire. Nothing’s too much trouble. A fantastic time out in the Finnish woods.

You can find most you need from this small rental shop. Sisu is located nicely in the heart of Äkäslompolo.

My wife, son and I had a 90 minute cross country skiing lesson with Timo on and around the lake. Timo is a fantastic instructor, very patient and knowledgeable and a thoroughly nice guy too! My 9 year old son progressed from never having been on skis to whizzing along trails with ease!
We all really enjoyed our lesson and felt we made great progress. The lake is the ideal training ground as it is flat and has some picturesque trails around the shoreline with slight inclines.
Nothing was too much trouble and the kit was superb. Furthermore the service was fantastic and friendly and we even had the skis for the rest of the day without charge!
I highly recommend Sisu to anyone who needs instruction or to hire skis etc.

Timo and Maikku were both extremely helpful, as we had not done any cross country skiing before. Timo took 4 of us for a 90 minute lesson with utmost patience and encouragement. I would not hesitate to recommend Sisu Outdoor. First class service. Thank you Timo and Maikku.

Timo at Sisu is the most helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and patient cross country ski instructor one could wish for. He took a mixed family group of ages ranging from 8 to 70 on a 3-hour trek, and we all learned and enjoyed the experience. Also very efficient and friendly service in the shop. Highly recommended!

We had the family package and then hired the skis for 2 more days. The lesson was informative and we were kept on the move... Gaining valuable hints and tips.
The best was the rental service - as they said to come back if we needed any help and they gave us great suggestions of trips that suited our ability. Thanks maikku and timo.

We had a XC ski lesson and rented 6 sets of skis for 3 days. The service was excellent. Fitting for the equipment, lesson by Maikku, help on selecting trails and advice.
Timo and Maikku are really easy to deal with and offer as much advice and help as you could ever want,
We were a family of 6, 4 kids from 17 to 10. Regular downhill skiers but no XC experience. We had an hours lesson to set us off in the right direction and then had 3 trips off by our selves. Maikku andTimo were really helpful in suggesting where we should go and got it just about perfect.
I had a small issue with one of my skis and this was sorted out without any hassle too.
You really couldn't ask for better service.
Thanks for making our first XC skiing experience so easy.
