We had an early morning start, and decided to go see if we could get to the falls before Hobbitton tour. We did not realize it would be 45 minutes to the falls, and 45 minutes back down, but we decided to do it anyways, and well it was worth it. We cannot wait to come back and do the... More

Not far off the road in North Rotorua is this beautiful waterfalls with Kayaker's going down the river and over the smaller falls. Nestled in the woods it's probably a 10 min walk on a good path. If you go further down the trail to the larger falls it's about 25 mins.

This is a great walk. Took about 3 hours there and back. Gradual to start with then gets steep, lots of stairs. Be prepared to get wet at the top. Views awesome.

Stopped here for a brisk hike up to the falls lookout on the way back from Rotauroa to Auckland airport. A great finish to an all to brief trip to NZ. Do before you're 70 otherwise take hiking sticks!

Beautiful walk through the woods to reach the top of the waterfall. Quite challenging in places, but basically simple. Beautiful views and great pictures.

We walked the Wairere Falls track to the top of the falls on a humid cloudy day. The track is well maintained but there are many steps, rocks and roots to negotiate so wear sturdy shoes and take plenty of water if it is hot. The lookout at the base of the falls is a good halfway stop for a... More

We have done the trek today, with brilliant weather and amazing views from the top, the 1hr trek up is definitely worth it! I recon the falls looked a bit measly due to the fact it has been pretty dry and it's summer, but still worth a hike and a dip! Need to get some bean bags, wine and snacks... More

Handy to Matamata township and the Opal springs hot pools Car park at the end of Goodwin road can get crowed so you may have issues turning a large campervan around and may need to back up the road a wee way to do that its doable The walk to the base of the falls is relatively flat from the... Our daughter is back from overseas for a couple of weeks so we decided to take this waterfall walk. I had forgotten how beautiful it is from start to finish. We are of average fitness and managed to do it in just under 2 hours including a probably 10 minutes or so stop at the top. It is quite a... More

We've been exploring some of our local DOC walks over the summer holidays, and today we chose the masterpiece (so far). It's a moderate walk and is a three hour trip. It is a constant climb and we definitely worked up a sweat, but the view from the top was awesome! We saw some people attempting the walk in jandals... More
