On a rainy monday in July, nobody was here. You have to visit it (also the crypt). When the weather is better you can do fine walks here.

I want to alter my blog of 2012 because the train no longer runs to Otsuarte. A good way to walk to Arantzazu -uphill through the woods - is to follow the camino de Santiago (yellow arrow) trail from Zegama. You can get to Zegama by train from San Sebastian to Beasain and then bus to Zegama. There are 2... More

Santuario de Aranzazu is a very modern religious temple built in the middle of 20th century and located in a hill of the center of Basque Country, near the beautiful historical town of Oñati, in the Basque Country. Arantzazu means “abundance of thorns” in Basque due to the place, where a statue of the Virgin was found in the 15th... More

Simple one of the most awesome - in the truest sense of the word - churches I've ever been in. Breathtaking location with incredible views but simply phenomenal work of art.

The nature surrounding the buildings is breathtaking and if you can visit during the festivities you will be embrace in a cultural and spiritual unforgettable experience. It is not easy to find it and when busy you will have to park considerable far but this should not deter you, as... More

When Franco visited this Arantzazu church was in shock and tried to tear down completely; argumenting that was a sacrilege. Fortunately, locals were against this decision and keep the church safe. It's amazing to be inside. Don't forget to visit the basement chapel and take a picture of the Christ painted on the wall, you will get awesome photo effect.... More

See the full account just submitted in a review of Onati and its University. The mountain views plus the interior of this church are a Michelin two star attraction at least.

I confess that the Sanctuary itself is not to my taste. The facade is nice, with a rugged sculptural appeal. But, inside, it's not much to look at. The beauty is the countryside and the drive to Aranzazu. Absolutely green and with lovely walking trails. If you love mountains and want to take a beautiful hike or just have a... More
