You can see this place from afar sitting high above the surrounding area. The cathedral is special with the black madonna and the legend about her, but allow yourself also to enjoy the wonderful light through the many large glass mosaiks. Next to the cathedral...More

The church has a special place in the hearts of Sicilians because of the presence of the Black Madonna. Even if the church itself is nothing special, artistically speaking, just the view from the heights of the coast and the sea beyond are worth the climb.

Their website says the sanctuary is closed from 12:30 to 14:30 for the mid-day break, and at 19:00 for the night, although it stays open until 20:00 in July and August. It opens every day at 6:45.

Your cheaper option is the 2 hour train from Palermo to Tindari for $12-$15. The bus takes 5 hours and costs $44.
