Good fishing experience, love the fact that we can keep the fish we catch if we want. Equipment was in good working order and the crew was very helpful and accommodating. The only complaint is that if you get a spot at the front of the boat, it is very uncomfortable -there's not much space to put your feet and/or maneuver because of the design of the deck up there. If they were to pack the boat with people, it would be extremely uncomfortable. The numbers they are taking now are fine.

We had a great time and thought the crew were awesome.....friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Also exhibited great skill in filleting our catch. I’d highly recommend this fishing charter company.

OK, this will be an honest review that you can use to make your decision to book here or keep looking. I'll be honest in my assessment and provide the good and the bad. First, I have gone on a number of bottom fishing excursions in the ocean. This was my first time in fishing in Maui. That being said it is bottom fishing and is generally the same program for bottom fishing. I am also a hunter as well as a fisherman. I completely understand that the number of fish caught or prey taken does NOT equate to whether a trip was successful or not. I contacted this company and was met on the phone by a friendly employee and asked some questions. I explained my schedule and inquired if they had any openings. We arranged a date and I made the reservation. They will only go out if there are at least 6 people booked according to the employee I spoke with. Fair enough. Once we got on the boat, The crew introduced themselves and explained the itinerary. We would be trolling for larger fish on the way out to the bottom fishing area(s). Fair enough. I was warned about this by a local who stated if I went on a bottom fishing trip, dont waste the slow drive time out to our fishing areas. They told me they will use a lottery IF a fish is hooked while trolling. You may or may not get a chance at one of the big fish. But that is not what I paid for. The local explained that they will go out slower due to the trolling and come back slower as well but it would eat up valuable fishing time that could be focused on the bottom fishing. The local also told me that the bottom fishing has been fished out for quite some time. They also cautioned that anything that was caught would be extremely small. So out of the harbor we headed.....trolling and using the "lottery system" I was warned about by the local. That was not a deal breaker for me though. My trip was booked at the end of the whale migration season and there were still whales in the area. I went on a whale watching tour the previous day and saw a few. Every time on this fishing trip however, a whale was spotted, the boat went towards the whale. I paid to go fishing, not whale watching. Although seeing the whale was cool, some of the other people who booked a fishing tour made comments about not actually fishing but rather whale watching. So when we finally got to some of the bottom fishing spots, The captain would let us know to "drop 'em" referring to our lines. This was based on what he was seeing on his sonar. There was moderate wind which caused us to drift. As a result, he had to reposition the boat a number of times. My contention was this.....As mentioned before, I have been on many of these types of trips. Usually, the captain knows the wind drift direction and initially positions the boats so the we will drift over the fish while we have our lines in the water. This just didnt seem to be the case on this trip. My other contention is that we never really fished in any given area for more that a few minutes. Here is an example.....Captain moved us to a new location, told us to drop 'em, I looked at my watch and it was 4pm exactly. by 4:04pm he was telling us to reel 'em up so we could move to a different area. This was the pattern. over and over. So I concluded a couple of things could be at play. 1. the area around Maui was possibly fished out for the bottom fish. 2. The captain wasnt really putting us on fish or trying to put us on fish. 3. maybe they were just taking suckers money (which I doubt). I heard one of the other patrons ask for assistance with getting a hook baited. One of the deck hands said thats not my job while leaning up against the outer wall. It may not be their job to bait a hook for someone but they are expecting tips at the end of the trip and their (Crew) are providing an experience. I always bait my own hooks etc on these type of trip but some people arent that experienced. Anyway here is my assessment Pros... The crew was friendly The boat was very clean including the bathrooms they provided the equipment you would need Cons... My particular pole wasnt in the best working order. Could have just been the pole I had Didnt really seem to have that much time to fish a particular area. Again, this didnt make sense to me as they have sonar and experience in this area. in conclusion, of the 10 people fishing on the boat that day, I believe there were 7 fish caught in 4 hours. I have never experienced that low of a catch before. I didnt catch anything on this trip which again isnt a deal breaker but it is nice to catch fish. I did get a couple of nibbles from the bait stealing triggerfish. I would say the experience on this trip was fair. When I go back to Maui next year, I'll check out a different company and maybe do a little more research. Like I said before, the crew was friendly and I did leave them a tip. I just dont think they were especially attentive to the 73 year old fisherwoman or the smaller kids on the boat. God Bless

What an awesome fishing experience! The crew was friendly, skilled, patient, and answered all my questions. This was my first time fishing off a boat, and I caught 6 fish! The boat was clean, roomy, and had a very clean and spacious bathroom for a boat. This trip was everything I could have wanted and more. The crew fillet the fish on the boat, and I made amazing tasty snapper tacos from the fish I caught that day. 10/10 would recommend.

Went on a bottom fishing trip with Aloha Blue Charters and it was fantastic. Captain and crew were great! They were attentive, friendly and helped everyone on board catch fish. Great boat! The boat is comfortable and roomy, nice restroom and a wonderful crew. We caught some beautiful and tasty snapper, a few other cool species and saw whales! Overall it was a great experience and we will certainly be back again! Thanks Aloha Blue Team!
