Situated in the surroundings of Ganja, Nizami Ganjavi Mausoleum consists of a complex of several buildings. The mausoleum itself is rather high. It lies in a little park with pools, pavilions, sculptures of Nizami and allusions to his literary works. The tomb is accessible via stairs. I cannot remember having seen a ramp. The interior is not over-ornate. There are shebeke stained glass windows, and ornamented lamps hanging from the ceiling. The tomb was rebuilt after the independence of Azerbaijan in the 1990s. Before it had been damaged or ruined several times across the centuries. The Mausoleum is a place of pilgrimage for both Azeris and Persians. As his name says, Nizami was born in Ganja and died there. His texts belong to world literature like Shakespeare‘s works. He means to the Eastern world what Shakespeare, Goethe and others mean to the West. That he wrote in Persian should make us think about the advantages of multiculturalism, and refute nationalism.
Some of the buildings belonging to the Nizami complex lie on the other side of a very busy main road. Be cautious. One of them looks like an open book. A smart idea!

Very impressive Mausoleum
Sep 2018
The Nizami Mausoleum (Azerbaijani), built in honor of the 12th-century poet Nizami Ganjavi, stands just outside the city of Ganja,
We visited the city of Ganja and went to see the Nizami Mausoleum.
It is a tall cylindrical building, surrounded by gardens.
To one side, there are metal statues commemorating Nizami's epic poems.
The mausoleum was constructed from solid granite blocks.
Inside there are nice colorful vitrages.

Nizami was a greatest Azerbaijani poet which lived in 12th century. If you are in Ganja you have to visit this place. This mausoleum is well-known in Azerbaijan. It is surrounded with statues of heroes from his most famous books.

Disappointed that the Persian script is not actual Persian.
Jun 2018 • Solo
The gardens are nice, the mausoleum is nice outside, and even better inside. The setting sun. shining through the multi-colored glass panels. make for a nice view inside. Was disappointed that the Persian script in the panels inside the mausoleum are actually not Persian words. They are merely the transliteration, in Persian script, of the Azeri words below. As far as I know, Nizami is famous for what he wrote in Persian, not Azeri.

For all poets...

This is a place what should be visited in Ganga. Nizami was probably one of most important characters in Persian culture during Middle Age. He was great poet and maybe most important person from AZ during all history. On his burial site is built huge complex, which contains museum, mausoleum, little garden and Nizami sculpture group. Like all important places in AZ is this also colossal. If You feel inside you a bit poesy, this place must be visited.

The interesting place is the Nizami Ganjavi museum, not the mausoleum
Nov 2017 • Friends
About 15 minutes drive by car from Ganja into the direction of Baku is the museum commermorating the great 12th century poet Nizami Ganjavi. Entrance fee is 2 Manat, we had our own interpreter with us which helped a lot. The museum shows part of the poems of the poet, carpects depicting Nizami Ganja and his works. The mausoleum is surrounded by a small park with a lake, good for taking a walk.

Beautiful place outside the city. I would recommend to visit it after you visit the imamzadeh mosque mauzoleum. Is only 3km from there. Make sure you have water in summer. It gets to 41 Celsius. Also you will need own transport.
