Orthodox Church St. Rastislav
Aug 2012 • Solo
The church is opened at prayerservice. 1910 built outside the city walls after development of the city, thus being the youngest Church in Znojmo. Due to its neo-Renaissance style combined with Art Nouveau elements its is one of the most valuable examples of modern architecture in South Moravia, architect Ludwig Faigl (Vienna) and was originally designed for the German Lutheran Protestants. After the expulsion of Germans from Znojmo it was transferred in 1947 to the "Církvi husitské československé" (Czechoslovak Hussite Church) and in 1995 given to the Orthodox Church, who restored the church, consecrated to Holy Rostislav (in the 9th century second in the line of Great Moravian monarchs). In its Interior a marble altar from the ceramic school of M. Mörtl, the wall is adorned with bronze rectangles, windows and gallery have art deco elements.
