Escaping the urban crowds
Jun 2021 • Couples
A beautiful place to blow the cobwebs away. Can become busy and does have very keen traffic wardens but park legally and you'll be okay. Walks can be easy or hard dependant on your starting point, for those that don't want a big walk park close to blue john mine and walk from there. Alternatively park in the village and complete a longer circular walk. You'll be rewarded with absolutely stunning views

Spectacular Views
Jun 2021
Spectacular views from Mam Tor...well worth the walk up. National Trust car park (reasonable size and free for NT members, but no public conveniences) at Mam Nick which offers a superb 3 mile circular walk that takes in Mam Tor. There a longer routes from Castleton too and from Edale. We were so lucky that the weather was fine - clear blue skies meant with had great 360 views of the Peak District.

Lovely 😊

We had a lovely walk to the top of mam tor. Parking is cheap at £3.50 for the day. No toilets so stop at next village to use facilities prior. Lovely views.

Fab Tor!

Well worth going up Mam Tor for the views which are 360 degrees at the trig point. This is ideal if you don't walk to walk the entire ridge but you want to experience some of the best views in the Peak District. Stunning!

Not for fat people
Apr 2021 • Solo
After reading such great reviews I thought it would be great to go and see it. When I arrived I couldn't see any lift to the top. This spoiled my experience due to me being fat and unable to reach the top. Good for fit people not so good for fat people.

If I could give a bit of feedback how to make better I would say put a McDonald's local would make some money due to no fast food outlets anywhere near.

Good view Dead Cow
Apr 2021 • Friends
Many steps but bright blue skies. Saw a cow, didn’t move though, think it’s dead (if you’re the farmer please check your cow) managed to have a wee without being seen. Saw a man in a big sock under a parachute. would recommend elevator

Good few hours in the countryside
Aug 2020 • Family
Went for a walk up mam tor during trip to castleton. Good walk uphill and enjoyed getting icecream on our return to castleton. Bit windy at the top with nice views. Hope to walk the ridge next time we go. Closest public toilets are in castleton.

a great walk
Dec 2020
we went in December so it was snowy and very cold and icey - but we walked the great ridge walk from mam tor to loose hill was also foggy but it was packed with people.
no shops or toilets your nearest place is the little town of Castleton which is not to be missed ..

took us about 2 hours each way but it was slow going due to the weather.
we shall be returning in the summer for the views. 8/10

Pickled Sandwiches

Another blistery day in the hills of the High Peaks District. Sharon not on form after the journey from TK Maxx at Chesterfield Market. She jumped straight out of the Fiat and piddled on a gentleman's bicycle. When he looked up I saw that it was Barry Jarvis, who apparently had cycled all the way from Mongolia after attending the annual Yak tournament. Barry tells us that, disappointingly, Mam Tor is neither a mam nor a tor. So we head back to the homestead where we live. Barry comes thitherward.
