At the doorstep of the historical village of Pamplemousses, within the Beau Plan estate, an old sugar factory houses a cultural, recreational and gourmet experience; it recalls the adventure of sugar which has left a profound impression on the history and identity of Mauritius.

L'Aventure du Sucre invites you to a superb and interactive tour along the pathways of history and into the heart of Mauritius and its cultures. You will explore the memories of an era that will never stop travelling your mind. Each episode, each anecdote unveils the magic world of sugar. The tour is at the same time amazing, mesmerizing and enriching.

L'Aventure du Sucre keeps the best to last : the tasting of the best of the Mauritian sugar industry, 12 unrefined natural sugars kept for export and having their own colour, texture and taste. You will also taste 11 New Grove rums which is the outcome of a meticulous manufacturing process.

A shaded and charming restaurant greets the visitor with a sophisticated cuisine that brings together the savours of the island. These gourmet temptations are followed by a succession of homemade desserts made with natural sugars

sists of an eco-museum, a boutique and a restaurant.

Opening hours : 9am - 5pm.Seven days a week except on 24, 25, 26 and 31 December and 1 and 2 January.

We visited after hearing positive stories and were not disappointed. The lovely Ashrin served us beautiful food in the restaurant and Salon de The - a fish curry for my husband and entrecôte steak with bearnaise sauce for me. We had flambe bananas with coconut sorbet before heading into the museum and tasting experience. My husband was fascinated by the... More

This used to be a sugar factory, but was since changed into a comprehensive museum on history of the island and sugar production process. Museum itself was a bit too much text doe my liking, but still nice. Great sugar tasting in the end!

A very infomative and well-planned museum, testifying to the multicultural origin of Mauritius, with sugar and rum tasting and a nice boutique with products and handicrafts

During our recent 10 day stay in Rivière Noir we decided to do a day trip to visit the museum in pamplemoisses, where sugar cane was refined in this massive refinery for sugar. An educating tour. Hunger sets in after that walk around and on the grounds is the open air and covered dining area of the estate. Service was... More

You will probably need a hire car/taxi to visit this attraction, although it is not far from Pamplemousses. It is set in some nice grounds where there are a few seats, a mobile selling snacks and drinks and a large café/restaurant. After purchasing our ticket, we followed the recommended route, which took us past many exhibits and displays. There is... More

Historical museum of the history of sugar from the ancient past and how it affected Mauritius. You could spend many hours here, reading all the placards denoting the history of sugar/slavery/colonial rule. Cost is 380 Mrps for adults. Includes the cost of sugar/honey and rum tastings at the end in the gift shops. Very interesting seeing the machinery used to... More

Good restaurant. Visit with my family coming from abroad and they were really happy to have full details on how sugar was produced in this country.

We were pleasantly surprised when we came here. We weren't expecting such an interesting visit! We spent over two hours touring this exhibition and learned so much about the history of Mauritius and the sugar. It's a must - gives so much insight to the island's culture.

A great experience that can be enjoyed by families and friends. Lots of history of the island linking into the sugar industry. There's plenty of the original manufacturing equipment still in place to get an idea of how the sugar cane is processed. The gift shop highlights have to be the ability to taste the sugars, honey, jams and of... More
