Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We did a day trip from Dublin to see this amazing site. If you are into history it is well worth a visit. They give you a tour and you can even go inside the structure. We also visited Knowth nearby and loved it as well. Cannot go inside Knowth, but there are several structures to walk around and lots of rocks with symbols on them.

This archaeological site is incredible. The site guide was very friendly and I really liked the way that She narrated the history of Newgrange. She told us that on the morning of the winter solstice, sunlight penetrates the passage and illuminates the chamber floor for 17 minutes. In addition, this archaeological center is older than the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt.

Drove all the way there. The place was deserted. We were told that because we had not pre booked tickets online they were full. It was like an episode of dark mirror. I was like “there is no one here”. The lady looked at me like I was a moron. Fair enough I guess I was but there was no friendliness and no apology. I explained that we went straight there after a flight from Canada. She could not have cared less. I am sure Newgrange is amazing but the fact that it is so gated feels weird in the middle of the countryside with so few people there.

The awe of what was accomplished in developing this community, in that time period, is mind-challenging.

The Visitors Centre (1 hr) and tour (2 hr) are very well presented. The tour guides provided so much information that assist in putting everything you see and experience into context.

Book ahead on-line and plan to spend around 3 hours…you will not regret it.

We didn't know to book ahead online (you MUST pre-book!) They were sold out the day we went so we weren't able to take the bus tour out to the site but the Visitors' Centre was very informative and we were able to walk around there. We asked if we could stand by in case of no-shows but were told they "couldn't sell us a seat because someone already paid for it" so the concept of standing by for no-shows apparently didn't register - I mean, if the bus is about to pull out with two empty spots because a ticket holder failed to appear, why not let a standby person buy that empty seat?

First off; you have to book tickets for a tour, you can't just turn up. The website works well and the folk at the visitor centre keep the little queue moving nicely when you arrive. Liked the atmospheric exhibition. Timed shuttle bus takes each tour group from near the visitor centre up to Newgrange and/or Knowth. We had a lovely driver and an excellent guide for our visit to newgrange.
The site itself is atmospheric, quite enigmatic, and the interior just stunning. Don't be put off by the narrow passge - there was comfortable space for our party of 13 once inside and the roof is high at the end of the passage.
A must-see.

Turned up at 3.00, and was pleased to see a virtually empty car park. Then, the ticket desk told us that they were fully booked and we were not able to visit. Despite pleading that we didn’t need the bus, we just wanted to walk around the site, we were denied entry and bolted to the empty cafe before taking the hour’s drive back to Dublin. Maybe our fault for not checking about the ticketing arrangements, but to be honest, you may be best avoiding the hassle and just looking at the videos. It does seem a lot of fuss about a small hill.

Arrived at visitor centre and found the organisation and info reformation second to none, our visit went like clockwork. Very informative staff, told you all you need to know about the visit, the bus times, return time etc etc.
the guides at the monuments were excellent and well drilled to ensure everyone gets a memorable experience. The trip was well worth it.

We toured both Newgrange and Knowth. Knowth was recently opened. The tour i was a new tour, having the touring all updated during Covid.
A shuttle took us out to Knowth, which was an amazing site. We walked around several of the passage tomb mounds, and were able to climb atop the largest one for a view of the countryside. We were there an hour and 15 minutes. Then the shuttle took us to Newgrange. We were able to enter the tomb. Also amazing. The tour reenacts the solstice to show you how the interior lights up on the solstice. The tour here was 45 minutes.
** This needs to be added to all tours. It was a great historical backdrop to later neolithic sites through out Ireland.
