Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A great way to experience the natural environment of the Mala Fatras. Head up via Janosikove Diery for a dramatic climb through gorges and next to waterfalls (there's an elevated walkway, don't worry about getting wet!) Views from the top were magnificent, to the north towards Poland and across the peaks to the south too.
Note; coming down the mountain on it's southern aspect is tricky, down rocks and stones very prone to slipping. Is very manageable if you take your time, but don't go rushing down. The slope is steep and drops either side at times severe. But as I say, to the sensible hiker there's no need to worry.

Many Slovakians consider Velky Rozsutec to be one of the most beautiful peaks in Slovakia. It is picturesque from many angles and I really enjoyed the trek leading to the top of the peak. The path was not crowded even in summer and it was crossing beautiful natural environment. Terrain is rocky and interestingly shaped. The peak is almost 1610 m high and on some sections it is secured with chains. On the way down you can take different path and if you have some time and energy left, climb Maly Rozsutec. Great one day trip to Fatra national park.

Voted couple of times as the most beautiful mountain in Slovakia, it is a must see while in Terchova. There are some fixed chains and a bit of scrambling on the way.

Take your time to climb the Velky Rozsutec and you will be rewarded with a great view on the Mala Fatra. The climb starts at te parking in Stefanova and you can choose two different routes to the top. Both are beautifull and challenging. You really need to wear good shoes, fit for walking and climbing. On difficult or steep parts there are chains attached to the roch wich you can hold on to. Also bring enough water and some food, the climb up will take you about 3-4 hours, and back another 2-3.
Alternatively you can climb the Mala Rozsutec wich is a little less high or take the cable car to the Chleb (starts at Vratna) wich brings you up to 1500 metres. Then you only have to walk about 45 minutes to reach Velky Krivan. This however is much more crowded and therefore less beautifull.

Took a hike through Janosikove diery together with my friends. Totally worth it. Beautiful view at the top. The nice weather was just cherry on the top. Would hardly recommend to anybody - children or adults, beginners or advanced hikers.

Beautiful in the summer but amazing during the winter as well. Ones weather is good, and all is white, view is amazing. Got there via Janosikove diery lower and upper, Velky Rozsutec, sedlo Medziholie, Stefanova, Podziar and back to Biely Potok. 19km, 6-7hours.

Nice hike through some meadows and woodland and nice views from the top (there was fog when we went there, so we didn't see much). Not too difficult but quite time-consuming.

I can recommend trip from Stefanova to Velky Rozsutec and back via Janosikove diery to Terchová. Amazing. You need two cars. Public transport is horrible.

This hiking is little bit demanding if you want to go on the top for mountain view especially in the winter time. But that views are worth it!

Sunshine on Velky Rozsutec - must have. One of most beautiful place in Slovakia. During summer and also during winter. But be careful regarding weather.

Veľký Rozsutec Winter Hike- advice needed.
Inspired by this article: Strenuous winter hike in Mala Fatra National park
Hi fellow hikers/ travellers, my name is Eugene, I'm planning to visit Slovakia around Christmas 2021 till New 2022 year, would love to do a full day hike with my hiking partner to Veľký Rozsutec and back.
I've email-ed the guy from the blog above in the contact form and then send him the direct email- no reply, that's why I'm looking for answers (to questions listed below) from people, who already did it.
We are a quiet experienced in winter mountaineering (not professionals though), well trained, prepared and such, most of my questions are topographically related.
So, here is the questions:
1- Is it possible to do it in one day?
Start at very early and finish it the same day? In this case it could be an amazing adventure for exactly the last day of 2021.
2- falling from Q1- what is the best location to enter?
I've checked the interactive map- we can get to Zhilina or Ruzomberok(which of them is more suitable for staying and celebrating the New Year?), then drive to Terchova which will be our starting point.
3- Can we get to Terchova by local bus or train?
If yes- could you please give us a bus/train numbers?
If not- where could be the nearest car rent point?
4- Can we hire ice axes and snowshoes in Slovakia?
I've found INTERSPORT RENT, sent them a few emails- but no reply at all.
5- We have the crampons, do we actually need them for the summit?
I really hope that someone will reply, so I can plan this trip in advance.
Of course, we understand that in current circumstances the situation can change rapidly and we might need to abandon the idea, but the plan is worth trying anyway, what you think?
Thanks to all who "participate" in this quiz: -)
Eugene S.
