I would define this place as a bit different Slovak Paradise. I got a recommendation for this place exactly because I wanted something similar to Slovak Paradise. This place doesn't have that many waterfalls, neither ladders, but it's still a really nice walk.
I recommend to stop by at Salaš pod Poludňovou skalou for lunch, it was really a nice place to have a break at.

Janosikove Diery is very beautiful and dangerous place in Slovakia. You have to be prepared. Dont mind others walking around in the sport shoes, because there are more than one way to discover this beautiful place. Keep in mind, its deep in the forests, so temperature is lower than everywhere else, plus constant humidity makes some places quite challenging. Proceed slowly and take your time (and breath). Gorgeous views are waiting for you. You can travel with small children if carried in the carriage. Some parts are accessible only via ladders and due to humidity, they are slippery. Think your way trough before start, get a map and pick the track you think you can conquer. Take as many charged batteries for your camera and video camera as you can carry. No regrets over 100+ photos and 20+ videos I made. Even if not recommended, I drank the water from the well. I live, so you will too.

If you want to come here for a trip, prepare min. an hour (better hour and half) for it. We absolve both sides of the "diery" and the longer one is harder than the other. It is better go there with harder way and back with easier. At the half way you had some bufets for drinks and snacks, also souvenir shops. The parking fee is 5 euros for a day, but we had no place here, maybe because of Cyril & Method national holiday - but the parking was organized bad way and we need park after creek.

Went through the Diery trail today with my wife and 3 kids age 9, 7 and 3. It was a fun 2.5 hour walk. Part of the time the 3 year old was on our baby back carrier, but she walked about 80% of the trail. Get ready to get high on oxygen.

We took the blue route, then change to the yellow route which starts wonderfully walking in the creek. Then coming back with the blue route. Beautiful hike. The part climbing from the yellow to the blue is quite challenging for young children, especially if the soil is wet from yesterday’s rains.

The trail starts behind the Diery Hotel- if you’re not a guest, you’ll need to pay €5 for a day parking which is not bad.
We started on the yellow trail (Nove Diery) as it’s one way only- it’s worth remembering this as the ladders and bridges are single file only so you don’t want to be getting in a way going in the wrong direction.
The yellow trail is quite challenging and not suitable for young children and people with mobility issues. There are a lot of steep metal ladders, chains and narrow metal paths bolted to rock walls. Also, a big part of the trail is climbing up over tree roots which is quite tricky, especially in wet conditions. It is a very rewarding route though.
We followed the trail to razc. Podziar which is a rest stop where you can get a snack and use toilet facilities. Then we continued on the blue trail to Horne Diery- more ladders and chains up there but way worth it if you’re feeling up for it. We turned off onto the green trail at razc. Pod Palenicou sign post which brought us back onto the blue trail via the rest stop and Dolne Diery, back to the starting point of the trek.
There are other route options out there so definitely bring a map and pay attention to the sign posts, you may be alone out there, especially on the more difficult trails. Hiking boots and rain jackets are a must.
If you’re looking for a less challenging route, start on the blue trail through Dolne Diery to the rest point and back- it is also beautiful.
I’ve attached a photo of the trail map for reference.

Ones winter is very cold, freezing several days or weeks, this canyon turns into frozen beauty. Hard to describe. Climbing irons are the must especially for upper part but put them on the beginning to be safe. I connected hike with Velky Roszutec which was beautiful hike o 19km, 6-7hours.

When I found out beer was cheaper in water in Krakow, I wasn't sober most days. I didn't know Polish, but I did know how to drink and have a good time which seemed to be enough for most people. After having a drunken debate at a pizza place in Kazimierz, this random guy invites me to meet his family in a small village near Slovakia. His name was Grzegor and I couldn't pronounce his name right because I'm just that American I guess. Anyways, he tells me to jump on some bus at the mall and I'm thinking I have a 50/50 chance he's going to murder me. Anyways, I get there and I meet his family and learned about the whole village lifestyle with the fresh produce and grandma's cooking. I had pork cutlet topped with beets and peel and boiled potato with dill. It was delicious. She told me it was the first time she ever met an American, and said I looked like a movie star, haha. Anyways, me and my new friend Grzgorz set off in our whip blaring metal all the way to this place. It was like I walked into a real life set of The Sound of the Music. You basically climb up these metal ladders and ramparts over seemingly endless waterfalls and streams. I'd say it's worth checking out as much as Wieliczka Salt Mine.
I have a lot of love for Slovakia. I wasn't able to spend much time in this country, but it is spectacularly beautiful and the people were very friendly.

My first advice is get there as early as you can, the place can get busy. When you arrive they direct you to parking spots and charge 3 Euros for the whole day.
We took the yellow trail (not easy but beautiful), got to the cabin and headed back on the blue trail (easier), it took us about 3.5-4 hours with a few stops. We are a family of 2 adults and 3 girls (14, 12 and 7) and we are not big on hiking, but the area is really beautiful and we enjoyed the hike. Note that some of the paths can get slippery so wear comfortable walking shoes and be careful.

When will be in Terchova don't try only typical slovak food halusky ;-) but go also for walk to Janosikove diery. You can comfortable parking next to Hotel Diery and after U have possibility choose one of the tourist ways. Janosikove Diery is also available for children it's only one part where have to be careful and mind the steps. I had also my pupy dog with me and 4,5 old young daughter and we successfully done. You can expect fantastic natural scenery wild forest and more. Enjoy!

Dear People,
We are planning our trip in Slovakia and I will be happy for clarifications regarding the Jánošíkove diery tour.
1. Can we go from the blue track to the green track at razc. Pod Pálenicou?
e.g. razc. Podžiar -> razc. Pod Pálenicou -> razc. Vrchpodžiar
2. Can we back on the yellow track from razc. Vrchpodžiar to razc. Podžiar on the way back to Biely Potok?
Thank you in advance for your help!
Best regards,
Michael

In Summer it will be extremely busy. It pays to hike early in the morning to avoid queues at the ladders. Cheers !

Greetings all--this looks like a beautiful place!
What are your recommendations for getting there on public transport from Bratislava? I would love to hike this park, but would need to know more about transport and lodging in the area. Happy to have your insights!

Hi there, as mentioned already - accommodation, B&B, hotels directly in Terchova would be suitable for your hiking demands :-) We ourselves stayed on Drevenice Resort Terchova. Have fun hiking :-)

Is it possible to hike on a rainy day?
Written 11 August 2018
Well, the ladders obviously get more slippery and dangerous in the rain. I guess you can walk the bottom part (Dolne Diery) but attempting further than that I think it's dangerous if you do not feel sure about being able to tackle it or not.

Hi, is there a way to hike without going through the ladders? We are a family of 3 children - 6.5, 8 and 2, and I'm quite anxious for them to fall....
Written 25 July 2016
Hi, unfortunately No. Because it is a tight valley, so there is no alternative. And yes, it is dangerous with such children. Some people do this with young kids, but it is not OK imo(me and my brother we were 10 and 8, thats minimum imo). Good is to go there, start the hike and when you will meet the first dangerous place for you, turn back... There is really no need to do the whole way up to see waterfalls and nature. The first 1,5 km is compleetly OK full of the beauties of nature(which are really great there! ) Good Luck:-)
