Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a lovely walk around the castle & environs. All the many lookout points were lovely. Ongoing archeological research is interesting, too. Grounds were well kept & we enjoyed our visit. There are portaloos onsite & a little kiosk / cafe for refreshments.

Very close to city 🌃, you enter the hiking track just behind the ice hockey 🏒 stadium. Slowly up with family with small children or sport speed to train. Could be challenging for small kids. On the top you see the mountainous scenery of city Zvolen and neighbouring villages. On the top you discover historical pearl many years BC. It is sport and history trip. Do not forget good shoes 👠, snack, drink and clothes according to weather

Must ware good shoes for walking / hiking. Bring rucksack and in it water and rain coat.Reserve yourself 2-3 hours to do the whole hill, because it is huge and there is plenty to see. Walk up is quite steep, starts on the pure sun, but then continues through the woods, so it is fresh.

We drove to the base of the hill and parked in a small gravel parking area. The dirt trail wasn't to steep at first but it got progressively more difficult. There were lots of steps and tree roots to climb over. Near the top there were also a lot of switchbacks. We are in our 70's and it took us a little over an hour to reach the ruins on top. The area was inhabited as early as 4400 BC and there was a lot of activity around the 1200's AD. All that is left now are a few rock walls.

There's a car park near the ice hockey stadium where you can begin your hike. It takes about 40 minutes to get up to the ruins, after you arrive to the "lower castle" it's about 500m to the Horny Hrad - upper castle, definitely worth visiting :)

To ruin a nice forest trail leads along hairpin bends on the road are also two branches on the prospects of the valley of the river Hron and Zvolen . výstume after the top of the castle hill opens to a view of Zvolen basin and the massif of Polana. actual ruins archaeologists and volunteers gradually cleansed from volunteer trees and parts of the castle restored and conserved to the effects of climate. I go to the castle regularly with children and that care must be taken because the prospects for the crags are provided only simple railing or at all , and it may fall to great depths , for the same reason should be carefully supervise children on their own ruin .
The advantage throughout the summer barbecue is prepared for outbreaks.

Pusty Hrad is apparently the largest castle complex in Central Europe. I know that books always mention Spissky Hrad to be the largest but it is only because Pusty Hrad is mostly in ruins. But extensive archeological research is being carried out in recent years. I remember it when it was still mostly hidden under the ground with only ruin of the front gate peeking out a bit. At those times it was possible to cycle up there which at present is not allowed. You can choose to do loop hike there or go up and down by the same path. It can get steep at times but generally it is easy hike suitable for families with young kids or dog walkers. After hike you can stop and refresh yourself with Cervena medokys (Red mineral water) which springs close buy.

The ruins of the castle complex are older than 1000 years. Even though, only ruins are visible, there is constant archaeological research ongoing (which do not disturb visitors). Very easy accessible even by walk from the city center and from the top of the castle hill is a very nice view to the surroundings.

There are a couple of refreshment stalls, but they are not open everyday, so I recommend to bring the refreshment with you.

Deserted castle is the one of the biggest ruine of csstle in Europe. The arxheologisy are working 24/7 and discover more and more artrfacts from this huge castle. Ot os great place for grill party with the family friends or just for the couples. It serves wo derful views on the Zvolen town. Ot is not so dificult to go up. Just for the views it is worthy to visit, but just if you are not interested in magical places. The ruins of the "Castle" will take you far back on time and allow you to "live" for some moments in the past.
The walk is easy going and it will take maximum 1 hour to get to the main Castle if you drive till the starting point by car. If you walk from city you will take aprox. 1 hour more.
1 way or the other if you are visiting Zvolen you will need to do go there... somehow.
