Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Symbol of the city, visible from distance. Definitely number one for visitors to interiors and exteriors of castle. Nice walk to discover history

I passed by many times but this time we decided to visit the castle on the hill.
It was really worth it as there are many things to see there.

An interesting castle worth visiting if you drive the car from Slovakia to Poland. Visit the castle and the city of Zvolen. Charming city, full of young people with a beautiful market and cool pubs.

We were visiting Zvolen to do some karate training, and our gracious hosts brought us to Zvolen Castle.
It's an easy walk from the centre of town, and home to a large portion of the works belonging to the Slovak National Gallery. At present, the Bratislava gallery is undergoing renos, so even more are is here in Zvolen
We were guided through most of the castle and gallery by a very competent and friendly young woman, who spoke good English and answered all our questions. Her enthusiasm for the castle and its treasures was contagious.
The castle was built around the end of the 14th century as the king's hunting lodge, and since then has also served as a a prison and a school, before being restored for its present use. Many Zvolenites have been married here, including two of our karate friends.
Our karate master from Okinawa, Japan, had travelled to Zvolen to give a seminar, and the art manager at the gallery, Erika Trnková, very kindly offered to take him (and us, his entourage), on a rare tour to the roof of the castle. This is not currently open to the public, but is intended to be, as soon as necessary renovations and safety precautions are in place. We enjoyed breathtaking panoramic 360 degree views from the roof, looking over Zvolen town centre, the Deserted Castle, the Hron, and out across the foothills. Erika also gave us a peek into her office, and shared some insights about the gallery operations. We were very grateful for her kind attention.
We loved our tour, and even without the rooftop visit (which I hope you will be able to do soon) would highly recommend.

The Slovakia Nation Museum is here. Very nice staff. Large collection of paintings, even from Dutch masters. Some sculptures. Varied timelines. From Renaissance to modern day. Quiet. Enjoyable. Easy to tour. Grounds of castle are nice. Worth a look.

We knew about Slovak National Gallery exposition in this castle. Many iconic items and paintings. The chapel is also nice. The only thing was there is no view from the castle to the city.
