Look out for concerts!

Beautiful Moorish-style building, nicely maintained, with Jewish museum in upper gallery. Memorial in grounds to the many Jews of Presov who were deported to the Nazi death camps in WWII. There are often excellent chamber music concerts.

The Presov Synagogue
Jul 2017
One of the most beautiful old synagogues that I have ever seen is here in Presov. It is in relative good condition. There is an old Jewish man that lives in Presov that opened the synagogue for us to show us around. Colorful paintings on the walls and ceilings were spectacular. And the feel of another time permeates the building. Yes, it is off the beaten track, but if you are in the area, this syngogue should not be missed.

limited hours

The outside of the synagogue doesn't look like much, but the inside is lovely. A great collection, displayed really really well.
The open hours are quite limited, something like 11-3 a few days a week.

A Moving Experience
Jul 2015 • Friends
The staff was helpful b/c I was there to try to find the gravesites of my great grandparents and any other relatives. W/a deposit, I received the keys to the cemetary and went on a search. Afterwards, had a tour of the synagogue. It's wonderful that it was able to be preserved after what the Nazi's did. The tour wasn't in English, but I walked around looking at everything. It's sad that originally there were 6,000 Jewish people there and now it's down to 50.

Worth visiting
Dec 2013
I've been to this synagogue a long time ago and it was still a less touristic place then, however, I enjoy its original form and warm welcome by an attendant.

Place of where old town breath again
Aug 2014 • Couples
In the Jewish religious community in Presov, visitors can see not only the synagogue itself, but also a permanent exhibition Bárkányho collection of Judaica, which is located on the first floor and administrative point of Slovak National Museum, Department of Jewish Culture in Bratislava. The collection also contains articles of original contemporary Jewish Museum, which was founded in Presov in 1928. I love this place.

the most beautiful synagogue in slovakia - a gem among moorish style ("spanish") synagogues
Jul 2014 • Friends
a building very close to the city center, almost unnoticeable with rather simple exterior but hides breathtaking, rich hand-painted decorations in a moorish style, similar to spanish synagogue in prague. one look at the pics and we were convinced for a visit!

on the second floor - women’s gallery - there is a museum of jewish artefacts from the daily life of the community and about the history of the local jews. open:

Tuesday-Wednesday: 11:00–15:00
Thursday: 09:00–13:00
Friday: 09:00–13:00
Sunday: 14:00–16:00

with 2 euro fee, plus 3 euro for a camera.
