We stayed in Snina and wanted to make a hiking trip in the Polininy national park. The day we were there, the weather was not so good, but we made a hiking trip to Sninsky Kamen; The hike through the forest was nice, but unfortunately there was rain and fog and at the top, we thus missed the view that should have been overwhelming. Towards the evening weather was better and we had a drink on big square in the city center. Big square in this small town which is not used to see a lot of tourists. The visit to the post office was an experience on its own, trying to buy some stamps... Overall, we could sniff the atmoshpere of this remote, eastern part of the country, close to the 3 countries-border with Ukrain and Poland.

This is an ideal place for backpackers who can take care of themselves. Do not expect luxury restaurants, souvenir shops or any guided tours. So it is important to prepare yourself carefully (e.g. it is not a rule that afternoon you will get a bread in local grocery store or that there are lunches served in the inns. So take with you what you may really need. But the result of the trip could be amazing. Nature is really not too much touched by tourists. If you wan t to observe dark skies - this is an ideal place. Of course, having in mind weather forecast. And watch the forecasts also before hiking into the mountains. There are no shortcuts for return - and the tours are pretty long.
