Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very informative tour, with lots of language options. Really neat tour to do. It is a ways out so be prepared for a large taxi fare if you don’t have a car rental. If we had read more about it we probably would have planned for the who day so we could go hike the trails on the other side.
The translation radios are a bit intrusive to others so it would be nice if they were headsets instead.
Otherwise really good.

Visited this summer - great for children as well as adults, the guide was very nice, able to answer all question, knew what she was talking about.
We highly recommend taking a jacket/thick hoodie as it is quite cold there (only around 5°C).
The only negative aspect - it is quite difficult to get there, even the GPS got lost, the roads are unkept, very bumpy, there are no roadsigns showing the way

Unique place, close to Presov city, which was the only one in the world, where precious opal was exploited in 13th century. With guide, very friendly You will pass 1 km of mine gallerie and discover how extremely hard was the work of miners that time.

My review is more "not bad" than really "bad". Just so it might catch your attention when you search for information about this mine. Because all the reviews here are so admiring, but I want to warn you. If you have been to such mines as Wieliczka Salt Mine, Guido Coal Mine in Zabrze, Salt Mine Berchtesgaden etc., then it will be very difficult to surprise you with this mine.
The opal mine is very nice, but small and very simple. Don't look at the colorful photos on the website. There are no opals in it. Several small pieces of rock with opal inclusions are laid out in one niche for display. The guide talks about the history of the mine and the life of the miners.
If you've never been to any mine, you'll like it.
But we have been to many others, were deceived by enthusiastic comments and traveled 200 km specifically for this mine. It was really a big disappointment.

What an absolutely brilliant gem of an establishment - for the oldest opel mine in the world you’d never guess from the modern and well constructed visitor centre. The tour of the mines is enthralling - as a non native speaker I was provided with a well presented audio guide so that I felt included and was thrilled with the content. Confirmed with native speaking partner that the audio lined up nicely so no one was left out!
Worth every minute and every cent spent here.

We were provided with a tour guide who spoke good English and was knowledgeable about the mine including its geology and history. I was able to email for information from the US for coming to Slovakia .We were treated very kindly by all staff. The mine was easy to locate using Google maps. We highly recommend this unique and educational experience

Prečo miesto je zobrazené v Prešove, keď atrakcia je pri Prešove obec Červenica. Google maps ukazuje presné miesto Slovenské opálové bane.

Hi: We live in Liptovsky Mikulas and would like to know if the rail station is walking distance to the mine and to a hotel. Is there a store to purchase opals, opal jewelry?

Rail station is in Prešov. You need to go by car or by bus. The easier way to go by bus is to go to the nearest village - Červenica. It takes 15 minutes walking from Červenica to opal mine.
Opal jewelry is able to buy in Prešov - Zlatníctvo Libanka, Floriánova 12.
