Do not go during winter
Oct 2021 • Family
A nice finnish experience, but in the middle of the winter wirh snow, there is not too much to see. Some of the animals are moved indoors for winter, bears and foxea are sleeping their winter sleep. Everyhting is covered with snow, not all the animals are easy to spot. Childrens playgrounds are not very convinient outside fully covered with now. Kiosk closed for the winter. I would recommend to go diring summertime or reduce the price for winter if there is nothing extra organized.

Mar 2021 • Family
This is a quite safe place to visit! The restaurant in the main building is closed, but cafe white swan is open and you can get coffee and kids burger from there! Takeaway of course.

Very naturalistic and good zoo experience
Jul 2020 • Family
All the animals are kept outside in the forest, thus a lot of arctic animals can be seen. Some like wolfs are hard to be found when they are inactive, which actually was very interesting experience for us to spot an animal in the almost nature.

Genuine

Unlike many other zoos, Ranua only focuses on arctic wildlife; most animals belong to Finnish fauna. I love that the enclosures are very large (even when it makes it hard to spot the animal some times). Very informative and pleasant experience!

Excellent zoo, really unique
Mar 2020
Seeing animals in their winter habitat was really special. The polar bears, wolves and various deer looked happy and healthy, and there is a great range of animals and birds that you don't usually get to see. We stayed in the adjacent hotel, so visited three times, and saw different things each time. The predator enclosures also made it very easy to photograph many of the animals, as you view from raised walkways

It is worth knowing that in winter there is a fire and shelter, so if you take hotdogs or similar you can cook a nice BBQ lunch to enjoy, Finnish style outside. The gift shop was also good, with a lovely range of toys and some local products, and across the yard there is a cafe, Finnish chocolate shop and more local produce, so if you're just passing through, you might also want to pop in here.

This is a wonderful wildlife park....animals are in enclosures so have room to run and move around and they seem to be very well looked after, lots of wildlife to see and watch...make sure you visit the ice bar before you leave....i loved the hot chocolate with a shot of Finnish mint liquor.

Winter zoo
Mar 2020 • Couples
It is a very nice zoo!! ( it is small, around 3km)
I think you need at least 1h speedy or 2h keeping calm.
You can see the real polar bears and some winter animals.
I liked a lot but is not too big.

Nice zoo
Feb 2020
Very nice park and recommended for families with children. Animal lovers will enjoy it here.
There are a number of animals in the park that I saw only here and I really liked. Unfortunately a number of animals were hiding and I did not see them.
In winter, be careful when walking not to slip in places where there is ice.
There is a pretty good restaurant in the complex, and don't forget to enter the chocolate shop!

Lovely place to spend a good couple of hours, wandering around. If you are staying at Gulo Gulo, you get unlimited free access to here during your stay.

A zoo in the snow
Feb 2020
This zoo displays wildlife that can be found in Finland but has the addition of Polar Bears. Went here twice whilst staying at Gulo Gulo Holiday Village accommodation. Nice to walk around with animals easily viewable.
