It's hard to believe that this tower was build to honor a favorite elephant ! I would just view this from afar as the hike down to see it is a bit strenuous.

According to my guide, Hiran is the Hindi word for "deer / antelope", which is the name of Akbar's favorite elephant. The precise coordinates of the tower are 27.098743 N, 77.662549 E (copy and paste this into Google Maps if you intend to visit the tower). One way of accessing the tower is to follow a dirt road to the... More

Hiram Minar is said to be built by King Akbar as a tomb for his Royal elephant named 'Hiran'. Many other versions of the story also exist, however the one mentioned is the best possible one. while it looks a mile away from the main fort, it is just s short walk away. Once at the Hiran Minar you would... More

this grand tower was erected by akbar on the mortal remains of his elephant hiran . it is octagonal at it's base circular inthe middle and taparing at top with a dome crowned capital . the middle portion is studded with countless elephant trunks in stone which appear like iron nails.

See it from a distance, his favourite elephant's tomb, that came with Jodha in the marriage. Standing a little away in forlorn geography.

It looks about 1 KM away from main fort. It stands tall amidst the ruins of boundry wall of ramparts of Fatehpur sikri. Its said to house the remains of Akbar favorite elephant. What a way to commemorate your loved one.

The tower can be seen from main complex. Our guide told us that us that this was built to pay tribute to Akbar's elephant who served as executioner. What a painful death to be crushed through elephant feet.
