Well worth a visit. Even on a rainy overcast day it was wonderful. The walk can be slippery when wet but it's worth the walk. Incredible views and history.

We parked the car at the pier and walk from there. It is a nice walk about 45 minutes if you walk slow and take pictures along the way. The first 100m are a little steep but the rest is much easier. The view is...More

After seeing numerous photos of Dunnottar Castle, I finally made it there this month. My expectations were sky high and I was not disappointed by the experience. The castle and it's surroundings are absolutely beautiful. I was lucky to visit on a sunny day and...More

This amazing castle has been seen countless times in photos, but they are nothing compared to actually being there. The whole journey to explore the castle is an adventure. I recommend walking along the coastal path from Stonehaven via the War Memorial to really experience...More

Take your walking shoes. The castle is ruins but worth seeing. The North Sea makes a beautiful backdrop for this historic castle.

We went to Dunnottar on a whim (I had found a picture of the castle and we decided to visit) and it was definitely one of the best visits we did. The site is amazing and the ruins give you an idea of what was...More

I think the close to 2000 reviewers, average score of 5/5... says it all. Nothing more to add, except, go visit it, PAY the entrance fee and don't just take photos from the outside! ;)

If you fancy a good walk with an imposing caste at the end this is a beauty. The walk is not for the faint hearted there is a monstrous amount of stairs to tackle but well worth it. Can be cold & windy.Oh & wet.

Hi, yes you can walk the surrounding area of the castle out of opening times. You actually pay down at the castle & not the car park area. Good luck with your photos😁It's amazing place for pictures

Hi. A rush in 1 hour, or a good leisurely 3 hours. If a 4 year old, expect to get a sore back from carrying on shoulders as steepish hill, and gravel path

Dear AnaVeronica, The drive from Stirling to the Castle should take around an hour and a half so would be quicker than the train. The car park here is staffed so you needn't have any worries about theft and the standard of... More
