Beautiful church
Sep 2020 • Friends
This church as well as whole town is beautiful. Hard to describe it. Best way is just to visit this place.

Don’t miss Venzone!
Sep 2019 • Couples
Utterly charming ancient hill town in Friuli. The historic duomo, at the edge of town, is serene and beautifully preserved.

Plan a leisurely stroll through Venzone and cap it with a visit to the cathedral.

Church in the village
Aug 2019 • Couples
I like small churches. It’s like going back ages ago when people shared the same ideas and believed to the same god. It was like one united society able to build something big even if they could offer a little.

Nice Cathedral
Feb 2018 • Friends
Dating to the 14th century it still holds some medieval frescoes despite the destruction by the earthquake, and the slender rebuilt bell tower which can be seen from far away due to its height.

A monument to human tenacity- such an emotional experience
Sep 2017 • Friends
Rebuilding this beautiful cathedral after it was virtually razed to the ground by two earthquakes in 1976 must have been one of the ultimate technical and emotional challenges. The outcome is a beautiful building and a powerful experience to visit. There are so many highlights, but the modern rough hewn wooden sculpture of a group of people reaching up to the sky is wonderful. If you are in the Friulli region, this is an absolute must visit, but prepare to be deeply moved!

A rustic memorial
Aug 2016 • Couples
I love how the church kept the unfinished feel. I am not sure if it is due to lack of funding or it serves as a memorial of the 1976 earthquake. But the unfinished surface gives a rustic and humble feel to remind the visitors of what happened in town and the rebuilt efforts. At the back of the church, there are photos showing the impact of the earthquake and church rebuild effort.

The follow-up visit
May 2016 • Couples
At the previous occasion we could not visit inside the Duomo Sant'Andrea, because a wedding was about to begin. (See my review). This time it was possible to step inside the building, despite the work going on in preparation of the visit to Venzone of the President of Italy, to commemorate the devastating earthquake 40 years ago. The Duomo is impressive inside and radiates the loving care with which the rebuilding was taken on from the rubble after the earthquake. Some impressive decorations can be admired as well. To be recommended.

The ultimate building to be rebuilt after the earthquake
Sep 2015 • Couples
In 1990 the rebuilding of the Duomo di St. Andrea in Venzone was finished. With this feat the national monument Venzone had been raised from the rubble of the devastating earthquake of 1976 and had become the landmark of Venzone again. Unfortunately, on the day of my visit a well attended wedding was in progress, so it was not possible to see the inside of the church. But this pleasure I can save for my next visit to Venzone.

raised from the earthquake
Aug 2014 • Family
I am 67 and lived in Europe for 57 years but I admit ignorance of the earthquake of 1976 which killed 1000 and destroyed this town. Thanks to some Austrian friends we visited the restored (1986) town yesterday, and the Cathedral is a fine building mixing one third original with modern bricks. The explanation of earthquake is given inside the Church, still in use. Visit the whole town.
