I wish that was my school :)
Oct 2018 • Family
It doesn't seem like much from the outside, but wow when you get inside and start moving among the classrooms... Visitors can freely circulate the school and observe what the students are doing in all classrooms. It's an unusual experience, you know - to see such a quiet school: everybody's concentrated on their own work, some people wear headphones and work.
The pieces are amazing, you wouldn't believe what types of "pictures" people can do with these little pieces of material.
Consequently, there are lots of mosaics across the city as well.
On a separate note, there's also a cute gelato bar on the corner of the street, where all the students apparently go during their break :)

Entrance is free. Obviously closed on weekends, since it's a school. Parking in front.
They also have a website for more detailed information.

Incredible mosaics -- well worth a visit
Sep 2018 • Couples
Friends suggested we visit the school, but the front door was locked and the building seemed vacant when we arrived. We wandered around to the back patio, where several mosaic pieces were on display. We tried the back doors, and they were unlocked, so we went in. One of the instructors said we we: classrooms where we saw student works-in-progress, hallways with exceptional pieces on display, and two galleries filled with artwork. The techniques are traditional but the results are extraordinary, ranging from classic to contemporary. In particular, the portraiture was spectacular. Do visit this gem!

Wonderful Experience In Any Language
Aug 2017 • Couples
Situated near the town centre but on a side street, there are some beautiful works on display in this interesting school. It is well worth taking the tour as you can watch some artisans working, and learn about the different ways that mosaics are created. It may be that not all of the tour will be offered in English, but you will still enjoy the experience and demonstrations. Don't let the language barrier separate you from an interesting and educational encounter.

Breathtaking skills, a real revelation

Among many great experiences during a week in the Friulli Venezia Giulia region, this stands out as one of the highlights. We visited in a Sunday, when the school was closed, so we had free run of the whole place, classrooms included. The quality of the work produced by the students is extraordinary and goes well beyond the traditional mosaics in the classic style. Thank goodness places of learning like this survive and thrive in tough modern times.

A really good insight into mosaic artwork. As I only speak English I would have liked more translated explanations next to artworks however I understand you can't cater for everyone. Some of the 3D mosaics were amazing. There are true artisans out there. I would have liked to see more pieces for sale too. Overall definitely worth the visit.

Internationally-renowned mosaic school
Aug 2016 • Friends
A local friend took me here. It is an internationally acclaimed school for learning mosaic. Students from all over the world come to this small town to learn. The students of the school become experts in the field, and they are commissioned to take part in major international projects.

I did not have a tour, but rather my friend was knowledgeable. If possible, I would recommend getting a tour.

You can peek into the classrooms and learn a bit about what it takes to be a mosaic artist.

Definitely go, but definitely go with a guide.

We retained Simonetta di Paoli (depaolisimonetta (at) gmail.com ) to show us around this incredible school. It provides a 3 year program for 150 students who come from around the world. The floors of the school are mosaics. The walls are chock-a-block with mosaics. Even the bathrooms have mosaics.

The best part . . . because our guide knew all the teachers . . . was being able to go into the classrooms and watch the students working on their mosaic assignments.

Great Mosaic Displays
Dec 2016 • Family
Although this is a school, the walls in the building double as a museum. We toured this school one afternoon midweek and were taken back by the varied examples of mosaic expertise. There are at least 100 wall mosaics displaying a variety of classical and modern styles all created by different levels of classes over the years.
There is no admission charge to enter. If you're lucky and a class is on break, you might be able to ask a student if you can peek in a classroom to see student's work, like we did. The class we saw was transforming classic paintings into mosaic form, focusing on close ups of faces. Very impressive!!
