Worth a detour when traveling the SS13
Jun 2018 • Couples
Traveling along the SS13, it takes a bit of effort to visit Gemona, because it is situated in the hills parallel at the main North-South route SS13. But it pays to make the detour, because Gemona has much to offer. The town stretches along the main street up in the hills and is of medieval origin. The town was partly destroyed by the devastating earthquake of 1976, but rebuilt with loving care. As I write this, the final restoration work is done at Gemona Castle. Gemona has that typical Italian atmosphere with restaurants and bars along the main street. Gemona is worth a visit. Free parking is possible in the parking garage behind the modern City Hall.

Quaint little town
Sep 2016
Nice quaint town visited because family is nearby. The town was decimated in 1976 by a major earthquake and they recently remembered the 40th anniversary of that event. Beautiful panoramic views of the mountains ever edge of town.

Nice little old town
Jun 2015 • Couples
This nice little old town is very charming and worth the visit. We wanted to go there because my greatparents came from there. The old part of the city is surrounded by churches and old monuments.
Not much to do but worth 2 days visit.

Impressive church and village - despite the earth quake
Sep 2014 • Couples
Excellent tourist office near the municipal square. Visiting the church is a must. Also look at the history of the devastating earthquake that hit this area

Nice Quite Town
Oct 2012 • Friends
Went to Gemona by car from where I was staying in Udine with relatives, the main attraction of the town I think would be its medieval cathedral which dates back to 14th century and it has a massve bell tower.

The town is medieval in origin and was badly damaged in the 1976 Friuli eathquake most of it has now been rebuilt, I believe they are still doing the castle. You can take a panoramic picture of the valley.
