The boat trip over from Kilmore Quay was fabulous even though the weather was cold and miserable. On arrival at the Saltee islands at 11:20, we requested what we thought was the earliest collection..... 4 hours is a long time to spend here unless you're an ornithologist as there's not a lot else to see or do. Watched the seals... More

Great trip for adults and children alike. bring suitable clothing depending on the day. Unfortunately there was no running commentary on what we were looking at which was disappointing. Might be helpful to bring a bird book as there are many different species to see. Visitors can spend the day on the island or just do the round boat trip... More

A short trip by boat from Kilmore Quay, this small and peaceful island is well worth a visit for its varied bird life and fresh air walks. Highly recommended for anyone with a few hours to spend or make a day of it with a picnic.

We took the advice of one of the locals and booked a trip to the Saltee Islands in May to photograph the wildlife. In short, it is a beautifully unspoilt island with only one family on the entire island (the owners). The colours of the flowers, sea, rocks and of course the wonderful birdlife is outstanding.

My husband and I were taking a trip around Ireland and decided to take a detour to Kilmore Quay on our way to Wexford. We were hoping to take an impromptu trip around the Saltee Islands. We parked for free on the Quay itself and took a short stroll towards the harbour. There was a large sign saying Saltee Ferry... More

when I was told that we were going on this trip my first impression was "oh no, island means boat" I was so scared to go on the boat and so excited to see the island too, the boat ride out was so fun it took about 15 mins to get out and when you are literally right next to... More

This was a real highlight of the trip despite the awful experience with the only boatman allowed to stop tourists off at the island. We had (sms proof) arranged for him to pick us up at a certain hour and he arrived over an hour late. We were a large group of 20 and Declan (as I said the only... More

As part of our visit to Ireland, we agreed that the Saltee islands looked like a must see. We were not disappointed! The weather turned out to be excellent, and the boat trip across to the island was extremely fun (although a little wet!) Upon our arrival, we preceded to explore the island, heading towards the throne and the head,... More

Nature lovers are spoiled there. Even though it's private island there is only tiny bit used by owners. Rest it absolutely wild. Lots of birds, wild plants, seals, rabbits..Great place to spot certain species fe. puffins. To get there the best is to use Declan Bate's boats (25€ per adult) . He brings you at 11, and collects 3.30. I... More
