Lovely part of town, nice for walking and enjoying the atmosphere. "Museum quarter" is a bit misleading name. This is no museum, people live here! Sure there are small shops and museums in some of the buildings.

This museum area is located in Kaunisnurmi, near the city center. The old wooden buildings are a reminder of Kouvola's railroad history. The area was inhabited mainly by the engine drivers. Most of the buildings were built in the early 20th century.

The beautifully restored buildings serve as workshops for artisans and artists and as boutique shops. You can find also a cafe, called Onnenkukko. Poikilo Museums and Radio Museum are located in the same quarter. Both museums are very interesting and worth a visit.

Kouvola Museum Quarter (museokortteli) is an old part of town, small but very charming with little wooden houses and narrow lanes. There is a specialty museum (tube-radio museum) here, and in the summer you can find small shops and cafes here, too.

It's close to the railway station, and offers a different experience from the modern concrete-filled city centre. The contrast between the old town and the towering concrete blocks are quite fantastic.

There are very beautiful wooden houses in Kouvola Museum Quarter (also known as Kouvolan museokortteli or Kaunisnurmen museokortteli). Nygren's House (address Veturimiehenraitti 5) was built as early as in the 1890's and it is extremely cute.

Kouvola Tube Radio Museum (or actually the new name is Kouvola Milieu and Radio Museum) and the cafeteria named Onnenkukko Kahvila ja Lahjapuoti are situated in Kouvola Museum Quarter. Read separate Tripadvisor reviews about the radio museum and the cafeteria. Also Poikilo (art and history museums) is adjacent to the museum quarter.

There are some small boutiques in the museum quarter. I love Nature Boutique Luontopuoti maintained by the local nature conservation organization. Little Shop Aino is also very nice. Design Studio Taimi and a photo studio named Studio Ullakko are situated in the museum quarter, too.

The museum quarter is very atmospheric but quite small (only two streets). The cafeteria and Poikilo have quite good opening hours but boutiques have very limited opening hours. The radio museum is open only in summer. However, the museum quarter is always a very beautiful walking area. It is situated only one kilometer from the railway station and 600 meters from Original Sokos Hotel Vaakuna.

This is one of the few historical places still left in Kouvola. There are really cute old wooden houses where you can find small handcraft shops and a cafe. The opening hours can vary, the best time to be there would probably be around noon. You can reach this area on foot from the centre, it takes about 5-10 minutes.
