Great Ice Climbing tour. Recommended.

My wife and I went ice climbing on Root Glacier and it was worth every penny. Our guide Chris was great, very professional and he really knew what he was talking about.

I flew in from Chitina using Wrangell Mountain Air for a half-day hike. (I wrote a separate review for them. Highly recommended!) I was met at the van stop by a St Elias Alpine Guide worker. (It's conveniently located right next to their office.) After signing a very straightforward risk waiver form, I was whisked to the back porch for... More

The full-day glacier hike is completely worth it. On a half-day trip, you'll only get a tease of everything there is to see on the surface of the glacier. You need the extra time to reach the most fascinating ice formations (peaks, crevasses, bottomless holes). Also, walking on crampons is really fun and not difficult at all. Our guide Jim... More

We took the 2-hour Kennicott Mill Town tour which allowed us access into buildings not normally open to the public. This includes the 14-storey mill building. It was awesome!! Our guide, Chris, was extremely knowledgeable and professional. His enthusiasm for the history of this place was fantastic and got all of us excited to learn more. If I'm ever blessed... More

I booked a full-day tour to explore the ice caves on Root Glacier. Unfortunately, the ice cave had deep water this season so it wasn't safe to explore. I was disappointed because I was expecting to see this unique attraction. If it wasn't for the ice cave, I would have planned a different activity. We've hiked the Matanuska Glacier before... More

Hello JSJAK907, Thank you for your review and I'm glad you had a good time on the glacier despite the lack of ice caves! I'm sorry if anything we said was misleading. We generally don't book ice cave tours until after July 15th and even then they cannot be pre-reserved. We sometimes suggest that hikers book a private full day... More

We went on two excellent tours with St. Elias Alpine Guides: Kennecott Mill Tour with Robin and the half day glacier tour with Zach. Both tours were informative, interesting, and organized. Robin and Zach were great and seemed to genuinely be engaged in making sure everyone had a good time. The mill tour was 2 hours and took us through... More

We live in Alaska, and of all the great things that we have done, this is one of the best. We had an amazing day. The glacier is beautiful, and it was even better on the glacier than we imagined. You can see features on the glacier that you just can't experience by looking at it from a distance. Chris,... More

What a great tour! More than 2.5 hours walking around the town and in the buildings with a very informative and interesting guide. Our group was a good size, and everyone was engaged. Highly recommended.
