Karakorum was the capital in times of Mongolian Imperial. The son of Gengis Khan settled the capital here. Today you can visit a small place of the ruins, close to the monastery. You can read more about our experience around Mongolia travelling by our own.

Lovely small town with friendly helpful people. The monastery is magnificent, a stunning piece of work. Nothing left from the great city itself but a turtle rock.

The museum is good, although the maquette of the old city may be a bit exaggerated. The translations into English are funny. The old townhall aka old/destroyed monastery is a bit of a bummer, not much to be seen. No need for a tourguide. The...More

Beautiful, interesting and cultural. Very interesting place to visit, I would definitely recommend having a guide to learn the most as most of it has been ruined. The walled monastery is interesting and you can just imagine when it was once powerful and big. A...More

When we paid to enter we were approached by an official guide who gave our group a tour in perfect English which was very informative and interesting.

I really enjoyed my time at the Museum. The place was very nice and informative. There was also a nice gift shop and a cafe with WiFi.

I couldn't believe I was really in such an iconic place. Fair to say there's not a lot left above ground; the museum is excellent and there is a model of Guillaume Bouchier's tree. Erdene Zuu is fantastic in its own right. Go to Kharkhorin...More

I highly recommend you contact a tour operator and have them make arrangements for you. They can arrange a driver and a tour guide which will be fluent in English. I'm sure they can drive you from Ulaanbaatar to... More
