The magic of rails golden age has been brought to life in Kilmeadan, Co Waterford. Experience the beauty of the Suir Valley from a narrow gauge railway in partially open period carriages as you take in the panoramic views of the river and rolling farmland. This is an area rich in history and only accessible by train. Great fun for all ages.

If you like or love trains this is something for you. It is old-fashion small train with opened cars - very slow and noisy. One journey is approx. 45 minutes long and most kids are getting bored but it is not something for children 😀

From outskirts of Waterford, the railway runs right alongside the River Suir with unparalleled views. Good restaurant at Kilmedean station and plenty to keep all of the family entertained at reasonable price. (Branch Line Society Visit May 2017)

We recently took a trip on the train. It's great for small kids as it's only 40 mins in total. It's a lovely round trip, chugs along slowly. It's along the new greenway we're people walk and cycle. Well priced and friendly staff.

This little three foot guage railway uses Diesel engines to pull two carriages at a slow and steady pace about 6km down the line by the Suir river towards Waterford. On a fine day it's great fun especially for younger kids. They do Santa days and Halloween trips but booking is needed, ring to check if they are open before... More

Our visit coincided with a rotten, wet, September day and we were worried that the trip would be marred by the weather; however the friendly staff ensured that our two boys (2 and 5) really enjoyed their trip. We'd been on the railway before but it was the 2 yr old's first trip - he is train mad and the... More

My three girls really enjoyed the train ride on a lovely sunny day. Might not be so nice in the rain though as most of the carriages are open. There is currently construction of a new greenway alongside the train tracks so passengers should be aware that there is a lot of building materials etc on one side.

Can't resist a train ride even though had no children in tow. Lovely views along the river, good value tickets. There was Peppa pig and a Teddy bear for the children to meet on the day we visited plus colouring and activity sheets. Quaint cafe in a railway carriage, children's area plus second hand books, always a winner for me.... More
