Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visavuori is a few kilometres off from the main road Tampere-Helsinki. Worth the break. The old buildings tell us about the work of one of the most famous Finnish the sculptors from the time when the nationalism broke out in Finland. The new building from the 1970’s show us the works of the most famous Finnish cartoonist.

First time visiting the place and it was much more interesting than expectations. Take the guided tour to get the full experience. Emil Wicströms life opens up almost as impressive as some historical geniuses, so wide was his interest on different subjects...gardening, astronomy (own observatory on the roof), building, wood working, literature, arts, sculpturing...and probably many more that I fail to mention here.

Visavuori is a museum, a former atelier of famous sculptor Emil Wikström in a scenic place on a rock near lake Vanaja in Tarttila, Valkeakoski. You can visit the atelier and summer house of the family, feel the art noveau and carelianism-filled athmosphere and enjoy the beautiful garden and beautiful Finnish nature, waves singing, breeze caressing your skin on a beautiful summer day and let your eyes rest on an open water route passing the peninsula. There is also a pavilion filled with his grandson´s political cartoons, Kari Suomalainen draw poignant comments on Helsingin Sanomat, biggest paper in Finland. More information on Visavuori´s own web page: visavuori.com, also in English.

Don´t forget to make your visit memorable for your taste buds, too: enjoy a good cup of coffee or quality tea with a fresh, more or less traditional sweet or savory pastry at the café Vaniljahelmi at the old studio building. Ambitious young cafekeeper who bakes most of pastries herself and only takes such things to the selection she likes after tasting them herself from producers who share her values. What a dedication in a world filled with cheap disposable ideas! Also a vast selection of dietary goods, gluten free chocolate cake with fruit sorbet was something to make visitor happy long afterwards! Allergy information given when asked for, also a changing selection on dietary menu. Warm and friendly service, also live music concerts, thanks to the great acoustics of the old vault. A visit you´ll savour long after for all your senses!

The spectacular home for the famous finnish sculptor from the 19th century. The unique architecture with studio and observatory. Important finnish history! Ask guide and you get much more out of the visit. There is also a cafe and art exhibition in the area. Absolutely worth to stop by.

If you are travelling outside Helsinki and especially to Tampere, get off the train in Toijala and take a taxi to Visavuori in case you don't have bicycles. Google Emil Wikström if you like but this place will take you back in history in his atelier and home to early 20th century.

Visavuori is at its best visited on a sunny summers day, when you can enjoy the surroundings and have a cafe outside. Historically and architecturally interesting buildings and very beautiful location. They had a nice little activity for children, a sort of a quiz witch our nine years old liked. We traveled by bus from Tampere and it was easy and not too long walk from the bus stop. You can also arrive to Visavuori by car or boat.

If you have a car and one day take a trip to Sääksmäki / Valkeakoski and visit Visavuori and Rapola Ridge.
Here you can feel the atmosphere of the early days art life in Finland. The architecture is interesting. You will get to know the history of the artist Emil Wikström's and you can visit his home, his studio, and cartonist Kari's Pavilion. I really enjoy to visit in this place. They also have a cafe in this place,
