Beautiful, Unusual & Huge Piazza
Jun 2019
the central piazza of Palmanova reflects the shape of the town's fortress layout and is interesting for that as well as for its unusually large size, the water features in the centre, and its collection of interesting, attractive buildings and statues which all reflect its past role as important fortress town. It is certainly worth a visit if one is in Palmanova and is one of the key sights in town. The town itself is moderately interesting due to its history and layout as a fortress town and is worth a visit if one is in the area and has time. There are places to eat or relax around the piazza and there is a small tourist information centre just off it on a street. That said, the town and its piazza have limitations and are not an important must-see. We stopped here because we were driving back to Venice from Slovenia and, having been to Venice before, didn't need any more time in that town so we had some time to visit another place. We had earlier on the trip been in Treviso and did not have enough to to visit any place else of note on this day.

Beautiful from all sides

Given the town planning of this town the hexagonal piazza is very interesting to see. The town as such doesn’t rate as interesting as places like Udine which is quite close but if you are in the area drop past

A beautiful place

Our tour took a break at the piazza after an in- depth exploration of the fortress. We were fortunate to be there on a day when the market was in full swing, and what an interesting experience to have a chance to interact with the townsfolk on their terms.
Please go to Palmonova to learn about the history and visit a UNESCO site from the ground up. You won't be disappointed

Skip The Centre Of The Square But Discover The Edges
Aug 2017 • Couples
While the town itself is interesting, the huge piazza in the very centre of the city is not much to see. It is massive but incredibly boring – useful for parades and marshalling military hardware. If you try to walk across the square on a summer day, you will rename it “The Devil’s Anvil”. There is not the slightest bit of shade or relief from the sun. Since there is nothing in the piazza itself, spend your time walking around the edge of the square to discover plenty of shops and restaurants.

Beautiful small town!
Sep 2017 • Friends
Palmanova is a very small town which has the most fascinating shape once shown from the bird's eye view. It's main 'piazza' is a very large and very simple spot surrounded by lots of small cafes and shops. We have visited it around noon so half of the places were closed however it is very friendly place which is not filled with tourists - it's calm and quiet. Really worth seeing.

Amazing

The six sided central piazza of this rarely visited Renaissance city is well worth exploring with remnants of its extensive medieval water engineering techniques.

The heart of a gemetrically perfect town
Jun 2017 • Family
This beautiful square is exactly at the center of the geometrical fortress of Palmanova. The main historical buildings are located here, including the duomo, the palace of the venetian provveditore, the museum of the city... At the center of the square there is a nice area with a tall pole symbol of the town; we found here a nice open air exhibit of reproductions of tools that were used to construct the town.

It's a small town with a great piazza and wonderful bars. We were there for a concert and we will definitely be back.

Dominant central square in the middle of the town.
Apr 2017 • Family
It really is surprising that it is always the Italians, that complain. See the notes.
It is an impressive square from which the streets towards the City walls lead. The square also incorporates the cathedral. Shops and restaurants on the square are very touristic.
Just go off 200 m and you are much better off.
One great inconvenience on the square is that it is getting really hot in summer due to the stone flooring.

Spacious Piazza in a Dormant Centre of the City
Nov 2016
In general, the fortification of the old city of Palmanova is remarkable. Once you enter the old walls of the city - the main roads lead towards the city centre, i.e the Piazza Grande. It is nice that actually you don't need to pay for the parking (at least, that was not necessary when we visited this city). We visited the Piazza Grande during their lunch break (i.e. afternoon "siesta") from 2 - 4:30 p.m - and we found it a bit dormant. Though, a couple of cafes and restaurants around the Piazza were still working - so, all in all, well spent couple of afternoon hours.
