Renovation going on, limited access
Nov 2019 • Couples
Quite disappointed. The web pages of Priego de Cordoba do not mention that The Castle is being renovated at the end of Nov 2019, and has very limited access. We drove there, about 150 km, from Fuengirola. It seemed the situation will be such for many many months. The only positive thing was that entrance was 1.50€ instead of normal 5€. But anyway, why not tell it in advance on the home page? Not much to see now, so even 1.50€ was too much. I can’t tell if there is much more to see normally? Wait until the work is done, except that I don’t know when...

Nothing Special Inside
Oct 2018 • Couples
My wife and I stayed very close to the castle for 8 nights. We went in for free during a large Medieval Fair taking place in the park and plaza nearby. Other than the views (which can be had elsewhere) there is not too much to see. You have to watch your step in places. Fine to hang out in the plaza and park outside and admire the walls from the outside.

Evening visit - free entry was a surprise ( Sunday evening)
Sep 2018 • Family
If staying nearby Priego is worth s visit. Great walks through the old parts of town, nice ambience in evenings and lots of restaurants. Castle area has quite a few of these. The castle is not really touristy at all and the walkways are quite rickety! But tremendous views of surrounding area from the towers.

Superb views but overpriced at €5
Dec 2017 • Couples
We arrived 10 minutes before closing but refused to pay €5 each to climb the walls. You would spend about one hour inside. Excellent views from the towers but nice views also available from the (free) railed town cordon. Nice walks around this small town.

Good quick visit - free on Wednesdays
Aug 2015 • Family
We visited on a Wednesday (lots of Priego attractions free on Weds.) It's certainly a work in progress - good views from the tops & a couple of interesting staircases to explore but watch your choice of footwear as steps & walkways somewhat hazardous in places.

Look elsewhere
Nov 2013 • Couples
You can get just as good a view from the edge of town overlooking the countryside. Castle has not been restored, but naturally, you have to pay to go inside and enjoy.

Not for the faint hearted, wonderful vista, for heavan's sake be careful on those steps up to the top tower - it could be much quicker coming down than going up!

Not to be missed!

This is a jewel for the Priego area. The museum presents a lot of infomation on fungi in general and specific species of the area in a very artistic and clear maner. The gardens are well thought out and the message boards don't just give superficial information but is very educational. We were here in March and there were very few fungi out but the potential is there in the season. If you have any interest in fungi, this shouldn't be missed.
They had no sales area which we would have liked. Books or post cards etc.

A Must See
Aug 2011 • Couples
The Priego de Cordoba Castle is located at Calle Abad Palomino. This Moorish fortress dates from the 12th century and was declared a National Artistic/Historic Monument in 1943. The fort has an austere appearance and has a quadrangular design with several square towers, and with a tower in the middle. The entrance of the castle has two horseshoe pointed arches that are framed by a frieze. The castle was rebuilt in the 13th and14th centuries. At one time the castle belong to the Order of Calatrava. The castle is currently under restoration.
