About
The scenery in Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park is dominated by fells surrounded by forests and mires in their natural state. Because the area’s nature is clean and beautiful and the terrain varying, the park is a wonderful place to hike, ski and enjoy the outdoors. The silhouette of the fells can be seen practically at all times and the marked trails lead visitors to the National Park’s most beautiful look-out spots. The picturesque beauty of the Pallastunturi Fells has made the area one of the Finnish national landscapes.

Absolutely beautiful and diverse national park. The park offers different possibilities (hiking, biking, skiing) for enjoying the nature for few hours to days long hikes. You can access the par very easily.

We just came back from a 5 days Husky tour which we booked at Pallas Husky. It was an amazing experience and we don’t want to miss this in our life. Beautiful nature, Markku and his staff are making it to a lovely family bonding experience. They also are taking good care of the dogs and Laura did her job very good as guide! Thank you for this beautiful memory! We highly recommend it.

Visited the third largest national park in Finland only for walking around and admire the nature of some of it’s best. Outstanding winter views on a clear sky day with a strong sun lightening us.
Pleasant and relaxing even at -28, recommended.

Maybe not as dramatic as Abisko or Sarek in Sweden, Pallas-Yllastunturi National Park has much to offer hikers, skiers and anyone who loves the outdoors. Mosquitoes can be a problem from late June to September, but as long as you have a hat with a net, and long sleeves you'll be fine. Some days there are none and you can wear shorts and enjoy the sun, and then sometimes they just come from nowhere. Mid May to late June is a good time to visit, just as the snow has all gone, but too chilly for mozzies. September is also fantastic with the autumn colours changing by the day. The Hotel at Pallas is worth a visit even by car for a coffee. The views from here are great. Climb a little way up the fell and views are even better. There's a really good information centre at Pallas, don't miss it, great way to spend an hour. Further south as you get towards Yllas things change with lovely lakes and forest before arriving at Iso Yllas by Akaslompolo village.( Don't miss the old mill at Akasmylly on the way ) This is also a really great hiking and skiing area. Or take a canoe or rowing boat on the lake. Kellokas information centre just up the hill from Akaslompolo village is also very well worth visiting. I'm now stuck on the Trip Advisor "recommended length of visit " bit……I've been coming here for ten years…..still haven't seen a quarter of it.

We have visited a 9 km trail in the Pallas part of the national park which both started and ended at the Pallas Visitors Center, where you can park your car for free, grab a map of the trails and set of. The trail was in demanding teren (you go over a rocky hill) and it was well marked with wooden poles. Be prepared for strong wind at the top of the hills. The panoramas are however worth it. There were even some reindeers near the visitors center.

The Park as such is an excellent place to spend time in the outdoors and do some excellent hikes.
But the biggest downturn is the lack of effort from Park management to maintain their pathes. Many of the pathes go through swampy areas where you walk on wooden planks. In many places those planks are either missing or damaged. You might end up at a stream or hole which you can´t cross as the planks are missing. The only choice you have is either walking all the way back otr going for a swim.

We drove up to the Pallas hotel and information centre.
The centre provides you with a hiking map and clear instructions.
We took the longest hike of 9km to the two main tops at 785 and 810 meters.
Despite we got caught in a hail storm, mist and pouring rain above 600m, we did the walk in 3 hours. It is not very difficult for people of average fitness.
Then we had a warm lunch in the Pallas hotel
Definitely a great hiking area with great views, in all weather.

This mountain area in the Finnish Lapland is magnificent. It is the most beautiful mountain area in Finland. It possesses the cleanest air in the whole world. It is a paradise for cross country skiing and the slopes of the mountains are favored by downhill skiers. In the summer/autumn time the trekking route (55 km) from Hetta to Pallas is a legendary one and the trekking trip can be completed in 3 days. In winter time one can make the journey in one day with cross country skis.

Ylläs-Pallas National Park is a very big area that you have to visit. Yllás is in the south and it's more for people who want ski and enjoy in bars and disco. It's possible visit the snowvillage near Yllásjiarvi Ticket 15€). It's a big house made with ice and snow. you can see amazing rooms and take a drink inside it. Pallas is in the north. I think it's the best part of the park. You can really enjoy walking inside nice forests and show amazing landscapes. For go to Yllás-Pallas National park you have to book a flight for Kittila (i came from Helsinki). I think it's important rent a car if you want enjoy all in that park (there are lot of company which can rent cars inside Kittila airport)
