This is a must stop on the road 24 offering range of sights, shops, museums and cafes. Canal operates frequently passing boats from lake to lake. There is a large parking lot just by the main road. From parking lot nice path leads to canal through a bridge and over the river. Just by the canal there is a nice cafe offering sunny terrace and great selection of ice cream. You can walk along the canal and lake shore in the grove. Area has fishing museum and local decoration shops. Also local brewery sells their beers here. There is a small playground along the open air stage. This is a must place to stop if you need cafe and gift shops in the middle of great views.…

Is interesting to see many boats or ships travelling from this canal, the canal is connecting Vesijarvea Lake to Paijanne Lake,summer time is peak and heavy traffic, there is small cafe selling coffee and icecream,so you may take a coffee break and watching those boats passing by. …

Vääksy Canal Area (Vääksyn kanava) is situated in Vääksy (the main conurbation of Asikkala), only 0.5-1 kilometers from the Highway 24 between Lahti and Padasjoki. It is an ideal resting place for all motorists. There are several nice summer cafeterias, small handicraft shops, green parks, interesting museums (especially the fishing museum in Päijännetalo House), old houses etc. there. I love this place!…
