Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The church huts are the cutest: never seen similas ones before but the idea behind them is just practical.
Many lovely old huts near by the church and all different; some smaller and some more bigger.
There is a cafe and a small souvenir shop too. Visit also the Utsjoki church.

Wonderful views on the lake, amazing huts/open-air museum, good mission cafe and Lappish handicrafts. And organ music in the church. Absolutely worth visiting.

You might think that in the middle of nowhere it would be a small church, but not so here. A large stone church that is beautiful in it's simplicity. With a collection of church houses that are open to enter. All beautifully situated by the lake.

Utsjoen kirkkotuvat (Utsjoki church huts or church cottages) are old wooden houses. In the old days Sami families bunked in these huts when they traveled a long way from their home villages to the church or the market in Utsjoki. There have been over 20 these kind of huts there. Now there are 13 buildings. You see even an old smoke sauna. The oldest hut is from the 18th century. They were used until mid 1940s.
It is free to visit this open-air museum. In midsummer you also find a small handicraft shop and a waffle cafeteria there. They are also going to open a retreat path there in the fall 2019.
The beautiful church of Utsjoki was built in 1850-1853 and it is situated on the other side of the highway 4 (E75). You may visit the church, too. The parsonage (built in 1843) is situated next to these church huts but it is a private area.
Utsjoki church huts are situated 5 kilometers (along the road) to the south of the center of Utsjoki. It is also possible to hike from the center of Utsjoki over fells to these church huts. The marked trail starts from Miessipolku. The distance is 10 kilometers in one direction.
We chose a longer hike named Utsjoen retkeilyreitti through Goahppelasjavri and Nammajärvi to church huts. This is a bit over 25 kilometers in one direction. Then we took a bus from Utsjoki church huts to the center of Utsjoki. Notice that there are only two daily bus connections from church huts to the center. So remember to check timetables.
I think that this is the most important sight in Utsjoki!
