Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very cool little shop. I think I may have left a puddle after drooling over the rich display of wares. Think of something, anything you could have in your cheese and these guys probably have you covered. I find it hard to go into a cheese shop and not talk like Wallace - “Would you like some cheeeessseeee Gromit?” Thankfully, spied some good old Wensleydale at the back of the cabinet.

We settled for a selection of the Hartington wax cheeses plus a bit of Brie for our 9 year old Queen of Brie. Lots of additional nibbles and chutneys etc to accompany your purchases.

Worth a visit if you’re in/near the village - in my view it won’t disappoint.

Managing to arrange a weekend away from caring for my elderly parent, let’s treat ourselves I thought. My husband is a coeliac with a voracious appetite for cheese and he suggested a weekend drive out to Hartington. The staff reception at “The Old Cheese Shop” was not remarkable, the reply to our asking for coeliac cheese biscuits (Mrs Crimbles Original Cheese Crackers 35 crackers) to accompany the cheese cost £3.62 when they are £2.2.30 elsewhere….), was very matter of fact. Their White Stilton with Mango and Ginger was very creamy and pleasant but HOW MUCH ? ….. £19.90/kg…. 0.080kg was £1.59. (Tesco charge £13..75/kg before their 3 for £5.00 offer) and with my husband choosing the Peakland White, a local coeliac compliant cheese at £22.60/kg …. 0.160kg was £3.62, I needed the bench seating available outside of the shop to “enjoy”the delicious experience. The village pond outside the shop was almost dry and full of thick green weed. Very unattractive and maybe a little hazardous too…..the business owners need to rally cleaning it asap.

I always come away from Hartintton Cheese Shop with lots more than I went in for, The range of cheeses, relishes etc is fantastic. However, parking can be a problem at peak times so its best to choose your timing - I normally try to get there just after they open on a weekday morning

Lovely shop and nice to try locally produced food. The only issue, was one of our cheeses had a sell by date the same day and was obviously off. Otherwise, we were happy with the other cheeses.

Good evening, I find this very odd as all the labels on our cheeses advise that the cheese should be consumed within 10 days.....they don't have a sell by date on them. The only date on our labels is the date you purchased the cheese, most definitely not the sell by date. Alternatively, you have not bought your cheese from our shop, but elsewhere......please check Regards Amanda Owner The Hartington Cheese Shop

We visited on Christmas Eve - great service, gorgeous cheese and gluten free biscuits for a Christmas treat. We enjoyed the local Peak land with cranberry and orange

This experience could be improved 100% if they allowed two customers in the shop, i.e. a husband and wife or friends. Our visit was on the 30th September.
We had been recommended by friends to visit whilst staying at The Biggin Hall Hotel (a must if you enjoy being well looked after and excellent food), and were so looking forward to seeing this cheese shop ourselves.
We fully appreciate with covid still around it is necessary to be careful and a sign outside asked people to wear a mask. This I certainly agree with, if you are able to do so.
However, what I found appalling was the sign also said....ONE PERSON IN THE SHOP AT A TIME.
This would have meant me going in, seeing which cheeses I preferred, coming out and asking my husband to go inside and then share our opinion as to which cheeses we would wish to buy.
We did not even bother to go inside. Being very realistic they lost out on quite a good order for cheese, as we invariably take three presents home and cheese for ourselves.
