I am only sorry that we did not have more time to spend in and around the palace and its grounds as the afternoon was lovely and it would have been great to view the garden properly, however, the palace itself with all its history...More

A beautiful palace outside Budapest but well worth the visit. Fabulously restored and the interior was so well presented with numerous artefacts and explanations in English as well as Hungarian. My guide, Marta from Program Centrum, was absolutely outstanding and incredibly knowledgeable as well as...More

I don't understand why I can not officially take photos inside (without flashlight of course). The building is renovated in 1990s and there is almost nothing interesting to see.

The palace at Gödöllő was originally built for the aristocratic Grassalkovich family; later Franz Josef, Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary and his wife Elisabeth ("Sisi") had their summer residence here. But history abounds along those quiet shady lanes. But this is exactly our...More

If you decide to visit the Royal Castle in Gödöllő, it is very easily reachable. Take Metro 3 until the end of the line, Örs vezér tér. Here change to HÉV (suburban train) H8, going to Gödöllő. The ride roughly 1 hour. Get off at...More

Well worth a visit. The palace is stunning and much of it is accessible. There is interpretative signage in most rooms. We didn't do a guided tour. Our guidebook provided us with nice descriptions of the rooms so we didn't use the audio tour.

We went on an organized tour with a guide. The place which is about 30 kms out of Budapest is worth a visit as it shows the history of Queen Elizabeth in a more personal light. However we had such an enthusiastic guide, that we...More

I am not sure if you have to see the interior of the castle. Quite boring and let's say nothing spiritual. However the building itself as well as a big park and great coffee in the coffee shop worth paying your attention. You will be...More

The renovation so far here is impressive even if there's still a long way to go, and it rivals a lot of the Habsburg sites in Vienna. This makes a great half-day trip away from the bustle of Budapest, easily accessible on the suburban railway...More
