Ayal Aboriginal Tours Kakadu (Ayal) was created in 2008 to share traditional Indigenous culture with visitors to Kakadu National Park (Kakadu). Ayal provides guests with an authentic, cultural experience delivered by a local Indigenous guide who lives in Kakadu. Ayal is family owned and operated. Our guests are hosted by Victor Cooper an experienced elder of Kakadu who has deep knowledge of the cultural and historical significance of the areas that we visit on our tours.

Tour Products & Services:

Guests can join Ayal on one of our day tours that visit the world famous rock art sites in Kakadu, provide unique insights into the Indigenous and European history of Kakadu, experience the rivers, billabongs, wetlands and the magnificent wildlife of the National Park.

Private charter tours can be arranged within Kakadu and west Arnhemland with a specifically designed itinerary to suit your needs.

Ayal provides ‘Step on Guide’ services for commercial tour operators who require a qualified, local Indigenous guide to enhance their Kakadu experience.

Victor Cooper is also available for consultancy services such as cultural talks and presentations; tourism mentoring and training of tour guides in Kakadu National Park.

The Ayal tourist vehicles and driver can be privately chartered for transport of guests throughout Kakadu when and where needed.

Experience & Expertise:

Victor is a Traditional Owner of Kakadu and holds the Kakadu Knowledge for Tour Guides Accreditation. As a Minitja man, Victor has the Indigenous credentials to tell and interpret the stories that are attached to the sites visited on the Ayal tours. Victor’s experience is firstly field-based as one of the first Indigenous rangers for Kakadu National Park looking after the country and then later he was based in management at Park Headquarters. Victor’s other roles in the community, past & present, include member of the Kakadu Board of Management representing the Minitja clan group. Currently Victor is acting Chair of the Kakadu Tourism Consultative Committee.

We all really enjoyed a half day private tour with Victor. Ubirr was spectacular and we even had it to ourselves for a precious few minutes before other tourists arrived. We went to the rock art gallery here and then Nourlangie Rock. Both great. Victor is lovely, an incredible person with over 27 year's experience as a Kakadu ranger. He... More

We took the tour with Victor, which included aboriginal rock art and the wetlands. Having such a knowledgeable guide as Victor made the sightseeing so much more meaningful and special. I would recommend this tour to anyone.

We were recommended by another tour guide that Victor was the 'best person in Kakadu' to give us a guide of aboriginal art, and we weren't disappointed. We emailed the day before asking for a quick half day tour to Ubirr as we only had a few hours to spare, and Victor was very happy to just take us for... More

Victor took the 2 of us on a great day tour of the Kakadu around Jabiru. Heavy rain the previous night had flooded a crossing to Ubir but Victor used his vast knowledge to take to other important sites and shared his deep love of his environment. He enlightened us how the traditional landowners care for and live off the... More

This tour only takes a maximum of 12 people. Our tour operator Victor Cooper came to pick us up in the morning and he told us we were the only 2 people on the trip. Victor is a Kakadu Ranger and he is very knowledgable in all the aspects of flora and fauna and also he showed us some very... More

We had a private afternoon tour with Victor to Ubirr and Cahill's Crossing. The tour was interesting and informative, and Victor was very courteous and shared his great knoweledge of the area and its history. We would recommend taking one of his tours, and we will be back to take another tour with him soon.

We spent the day with Victor in June 2010 and had an amazing time... The sights we saw were incredible and to have Victor share the perspective of the indigenous land owners was a privilege. Our visit to Kakadu and particularly the insight we gained from spending a day with Victor has remained a fond memory, we hope to return... More

We spent a day in the Stone Country and elsewhere in Kakadu with Victor Cooper. He was an informative guide who took us to rock painting sites here and there. We covered Ubirr, the Alligator Rivers county, and more. We learned about the social and geological history of the areas and the impact of mining. When we visited one site... More

We were lucky enough to spend a day with Victor Cooper. It was an amazing experience that we both thoroughly enjoyed. Victor's knowledge and understanding of the area, its history and his Aboriginal perspective were the difference between seeing the sites and understanding what we saw. The visit to Ubirr was fantastic - the rock paintings and views unbelievable. All... More

We took Victor's trip to Ubirr, East Alligator and South Alligator Rivers, Mamukala Bird Hide and finally Jabiru Township itself. It is a full day and at Ubirr you'll be climbing rocks but the Paintings and views are just extraordinary. Victor can talk to you about Uranium mines, Plants, Animals, Dreamtime and everything in between... My friends were from France,... More
