I skied into Kukkolaforsen along the river ice, and I knew I was close when I saw the torrent of the big rapid where the ice never forms because of the powerful water. I stayed two nights and had a sauna both nights in two different wood fired saunas, there are 15 in total there. The meals were delicious and... More

The location is great with views of the rapids on the river and a collection of historic buildings. The cabins were basic, but comfortable. The wood fired sauna was great to get into after a cold day outside. The set dinner was great and introduced local specials by the owner.

Top place with well kept amenities for campers, cottages to rent and mixed sauna available when ever one wants to go (included in the price). Very friendly service at least in English, Swedish and Finnish ;) Buffet for breakfast and lunch with local fish speciality. One can book rafting but the local company requires 6 people groups before they will... More

Our visit in Kukkolaforsen was short. White-water and fish, that's Kukkolaforsen shortly. You can take a short visit like we did or stay there for a few days. It depends if you like fishing, eat traditional Swedish fish and maybe travel around northern Sweden and Finland. Otherwise short visit is enough.

Entered the sauna at the camping and got stuck in a conversation about Torneå culture for nearly 2 hours with a retired military man from Boden. Try this sauna which is not the overheated kind. This one runs at pleasant 60 degrees celcius. Lots of water on the big hot stone oven is needed to keep that nice humidity. And... More

We were staying at the Swedish campsite adjacent to the Torne river and Kukkolaforsen cascades. We took a stroll along the bank admiring the cascades and watching fishermen doing their job. Nature added its ambience with nice sunset in mid-June.

Beautiful and stunning place along Torneälv. Well worth a visit. The Swedish side has a very nice visitor center with a restaurant and a museum. On the Finnish side they offer the opportunity to go white water rafting. Looked like a lot of fun.

Kukkolaforsen (swe) or Kukkolankoski (fin) is propably the best sightseeing nearby if you are visiting Tornio or Haparanda. I have been there several times during last 30 years and it is always nice attraction to go.

Tired of stress, pollution, smog, traffic? Take a trip up to north of sweden and breathe clean air, enjoy the nature, meet people who rather enjoy an hour chatting, discussing weather or just being friendly . One place I suggest is Juoksengi. You find it 30 km north for Övertorneå. The polarcircle is crossing this little village and you´ll find... More
