The monastery is located on a hill and this offers you a nice place to look around for a nice view including the Ammersee lake. We visited the monastery and went all the way up in the church tower, an interesting experience...

Andechs Monastery/ Kloster Andechs was a great day trip. Brochure is available in German, English and Italian. Arrive hungry because there is a well priced restaurant...grab a tray...order/pay at the counter and find a seat. Beer is purchased separately (around the corner). The pork we...More

Actually it is easy to reach by suburban train the S8 till Herrschling [end of line], then a mellow 30/45 min walk in very pretty woods, At the end historical buildings and my favorite German beer brand with the usual artery clogging Bavarian fare, which...More

We decided to take a day trip somewhere from Munich, and read several reviews about this being a good day. Good mix of both walking as well as having a few beers. The walk is about a 45mins to an hour from Herrshing station (the...More

Decided to visit the Andechs Monastery after reading some good reviews on the internet. We wanted a day trip from Munich that wasn't too far to get to. You get the S8 train from Munich to Herrshing which is the end of the line. From...More

A truly beautiful interior, but in this part of the world there are so many beautiful interiors. Plus we'd just travelled from Salzburg, which rather spoils one ecclesiastically. Had I not had the previous rich diet it would really have been stunning. A very tranquil...More

To get to Andechs Monastery, you take the train from Munich, then take a bus? Does the bus let you off at the bottom of the hill and then you walk up the hill? Or does the bus take you to the top of the hill? Thanks!

I am planning to visit in April this year; would there need to be a booking if a group of 10-15?

Hi, We were a similar sized group, just before Octoberfest, and did not need a reservation.
We will be visiting Dachau. Is it possible to train to Andechs from there or should we depart from Munich?

You will have to make at least 2 changes, as Dachau is on the S2 line. My advise would be to go to the excellent homepage of MVV and use the journeyplanner.
