About
Forssa Museum is located in the middle of the historical Spinning Mill Area - the birthplace of our city! The museum has three different exhibitions: Permanent exhibition The City of Colourful Cloth, an Art Gallery and The Pattern Center that holds and showcases an extensive collection of Finnish printed fabrics and original designs. The City of Forssa was established around textile industry. Swedish born Axel Wilhelm Wahren (1814-1885) founded a cotton spinning mill by the side of Kuhalankoski rapids in 1847. The mill was soon followed by a weaving mill and Finland's first industrial fabric printing plant. In 1934 the Forssa Company founded by Wahren was merged with Finlayson textile group from Tampere and the company Finlayson-Forssa was formed. Textile production in Forssa ended in 2009. The heritage of the textile factories is now stored in Forssa museum's unique textile archives.

New exhibit is about Forssa´s history. Nicely built and plenty of interactivity and very child friendly. Museum arranges plenty of activities, more of those is on their website.

I have visited this museum couple of times, but I still do find something new every time. I like the atmosphere and the looks of this place, visually the place is really beautifull. The basic exhibition shows the story of Forssa. It has been well planned and it manages to stay fresh and interesting all the way.

I haven't taken my family here yet, but I believe that my toddler would be able to visit here with me. There are lots of objects you can touch and interact with. There is also a room for children especially.

I also participated once in a guided tour here, but I had to leave before it's end. I felt that the tour, though a partial, really offered deeper insight into the exhibition. So if you have a chance to participate in tours, I recommend it warmly. Our guide was friendly and had wide knowledge about the topics she spoke about.
