A welcome stop in a lovely Devon village

We stayed over at the Duke of York on our way to Cornwall. We had a couple of evening meals and breakfasts which were of excellent quality with real beers in good condition. The... read more

The portions have shrunk and generally the food is not the high standard it used to be. I have visited a few times in the past year or so, each time hoping that it will have returned to the experiences I remember a few years ago but find it hard to justify the quite significantly increased prices.

We stayed over at the Duke of York on our way to Cornwall. We had a couple of evening meals and breakfasts which were of excellent quality with real beers in good condition. The rooms may not be up to the standards of the Dorchester Hotel but they welcome dogs for which we were very grateful and the bed was... More

Fish soup disgusting, steak tough, altogether very disappointing, as have used the pub for 20 years, & was a very good place to go. 9 people from Ashriegney won't be using it until they hear it has improved.

We stopped off for lunch at the Duke of York with our dog after a walk. Very friendly staff, gorgeous little beer garden and dog friendly too. Menu was extensive with a specials board. I had scallops wrapped in bacon to start and they were perfectly cooked. My partner sticky pork ribs which he enjoyed. Our mains were lovely too.... More

Brilliant pub for food or just a beer. Their is a large restaurant or you can eat in the bar area. Both areas are great. Good atmosphere in the bar and good staff. They have an extensive menu and specials board, but not too much to offer which means that what they do is good.

Stayed here for the last 4 days of our holiday. Accommodation is good and very comfortable. The food is excellent and all cooked from fresh. Portions are very generous and fair prices to match too although feel that the ice creams of over priced but they are not your average ice creams. If you enjoy tranquillity, long country walks in... Having in the past had many good meals at this pub recently I can only say that things are not going well!!. For the second time in about three months I have to report a very average meal. I took a girl friend for lunch and ordered the liver and bagon. Well the liver was so tough that I left... More

Stopped for dinner after a day sightseeing. Great atmosphere. Fantastic food. As if the menu is already hard to choose from, they have a "specials" board which made it even harder!!! I would recommend the homemade fish cakes, full of fish and not as much potato that you usually get from fish cakes. The locals were friendly too and welcomed... More
